Default Was Mark Giordano once a Coyote?

Just unearthed this photo:

That’s Gio. Looks like it was taken c. 2004, and he’s clearly wearing a Phoenix jersey.

Whaaat? Was Gio once part of the Yotes’ system? It’s not a Photoshop, at least as far as I can tell.

I know he never played for them, he was undrafted… would it be from an invite to rookie camp, or something like that?

I know he was undrafted, I said so in the OP.

What year?

Despite his offensive success in junior, Giordano went unselected at the NHL Entry Draft. He accepted an invitation to attend the Phoenix Coyotes' training camp where, according to then-Owen Sound General Manager Mike Futa, Giordano impressed team officials but believed that he would be best served by playing a second season in the OHL.

The best part is the notion that someone might photoshop a young Gio into an early 2000's Coyotes jersey.

I like that this was asked here instead of being typed into Google. Now I know an interesting little piece of trivia that I would have known otherwise.

It is a lot of what I like about message boards, the social aspects of seeing questions / discussion topics asked and answered in the same thread instead of disjointed private Google queries. One kind person answering saves countless viewers from doing their own Googling, and brings up questions I did not know I wanted an answer for.

Then the thread could have been started differently, instead of "is this a photoshop OMG I'm confused??!!!"

Could have been a good discussion if the OP did the Google search and then started the thread about how the Coyotes let Gio walk and how much they probably regret it. That would make for some good discussion.

We could still discuss it from that perspective. The Coyotes must have felt they had "lots of Giordanos" already. Glad he ended up here.

Just think of how different it all could have been. Bio could have been a Coyote. Thankfully they let him go

Interesting. I have no idea he went to Phoenix' rookie camp. I thought the Flames was the only team that checked him out. Nice work.
