I followed the production on and off over the years, and it was really interesting to watch a bunch of friends slowly build up their project. The film itself was a little disappointing. Obviously it's meant to be a "bad" film but in a good way, but it wasn't as loose and funny as it should have been.
I wanted to like it more because the guys behind it are kind of crazy and unpretentious. Reading what went into making the film was very educational though. Trying to get funding, regular and crowd, making the special effects, hiring people, shooting in Australia and Germany, it was really neat.
When they were young, some of those guys did scifi parodies called Star Wreck. I found Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning pretty hilarious. Basically a bunch of friends shot it in the special effects guy's living room. Ultimate nerd fun.
