Craig is my favorite Bond without a doubt (although I have only seen a few movies from before Goldeneye).
He has the acting chops and look for a modern Bond. Before him Bond was just a cool-cat with a lot of toys. Now he appears to be a tortured soul with real depth to the character.
Try and invision any other of the Bond actors being able to do the torture scene in Casino Royale while in Bond character. Impossible. Yet that scene completely brought 007 into the modern day. James Bond stopped being a cartoon and became a real drama/thriller/action movie.
It's kind of hard to compare the two as they are at different stages of bond. Current bond is about him starting out, learning the rules and trying to make a name for himself. The Bronson bond has the attitude of I've done this so many times now that I own it and can make it look casual and classy.
I see no problem with a black bond. And if there was one Elba would be great. I've always thought of James Bond 007 as an earned moniker vs an actual person. And that's why physical characteristics outside of being able to pull off the attitude don't really bother me. I look at each bond as a different person taking over the role within the context of the story as well.
Bond was always cheesy, Craigs Bond is the modern way of entertainment, it has to be gritty, edgy, real. No more cheese, or at least it can't be the theme. I love the new movies, and I think they are the best of the series.
Brosnan was perfect when he took over the role, but the one liners seemed a bit over the top and dumbed the series down a fair bit.
I always hated Dalton, worst Bond ever.
Grew up with the Moore Bonds, which were a good blend of cheese and substance, with the exception of Walken's villian, which seemed like the moment the series jumped the shark.
Anyway, just a few thoughts that came up while reading the thread, didn't want to quote any particular post. It's interesting how different opinions are even though we all seem to love the movies.

Can't wait for Skyfall!
Totally agree. The cheesiness was in full swing (pun intended) when Bond swung on vines making the Tarzan call in Octopussy
I love Man with the Golden Gun. It doesn't get really good until the end though. I couldn't believe they started impersonating my favourite scene on The Trip.
They both do a pretty good Roger Moore, neither does a good Christopher Lee.

any "best Bond" argument that doesn't include Sean Connery is immediately flawed.
the theme from On Her Majesty's Secret Service deserves more respect. And frankly, OHMSS is the most underrated movie in the series. George Lazenby gets a bit of a bad rap.
Lazenby gets a bad rap and yah, it's undeserved IMO. If he had done more and become a bigger star more people would have respected him. He was a good Bond and was a total bad-ass. I think he brought a physicality that no one else had until Craig.
And if we're speaking of theme songs again. guess I gotta repost You Know my Name from Casino Royale, one of the best bond themes and movies in the whole catalog.
That intro is so killer, the lyrics set up Craig's Bond, so gritty and real and show what it takes out of Bond to do the things he does.
#### it, gonna go watch Casino Royale again.
That movie had over half an hour dedicated to a poker game, and it was friggin great.
I've seen all of the movies at least a couple of times and have been impressed with how Craig's handled the role so far. Quantum of Solace seemed a bit forgettable but I thought that Casino Royale was a positive rejuvenation of the Bond character. As others have mentioned, there now seems to be an added depth within the character that wasn't present before, and I also think that he physically fits the role quite well.
I found it immensely bad-ass that Craig did most of his ass-kicking without all of the silly gadgets that dominated the Brosnan years. It feels like a stripped-down, primal, more "organic" 007 experience (though I did have a huge affinity for Brosnan's Bonds due in large part to the success of Goldeneye- both the movie and game).
I actually didn't mind QoS. But you can't look at it like it's own movie. It's basically a super long epilogue to Casino Royale. A few years back my roommate and I watched them back to back on Saturday. It gave me a new found appreciation for QoS.
That being said, that was when QoS first came out, so I haven't seen it in a long time.

Ya I'm excited for this, just watched Casino Royale last weekend for the first time in a few years, solid movie. I grew up on Bond movies, always loved em.
And am I the only one who thought Roger Moore was the best Bond? I think its the reason I was sold on Craig even before the first movie; he kind of looks like him.

Generally speaking I think Moore was the worst.

Haha fair enough I guess.. I think a big part of it is because the first 4-5 Bond movies I ever saw were with him, so I probably just associated "Bond" with Moore.
Also, in all the time I've been here I can't believe I just noticed now your handle's MrMastadon, not McMastadon. That's my random observation of the day..
