Yep Hamonic was a guy who was supposed to show his true value in the playoffs. Looking for that to start tonight.

Fans have noticed Hamonic’s peewee level gap control all season. I don’t know how he’s made it this far in the NHL playing the way he does. It is absolutely infuriating watching him wait at the red line when he should be pinching and when he’s damn near at the top of the circles when the puck gets carried in.

He is just fundamentally wrong when defending transition and I think he’s been the single biggest problem with the team (Janko and Neal being negative impact players being the other one). The coaches have at least realized that Neal is a problem so I hope that they will realize before it is too late that Hamonic is the next one they need to address. Hamonic has the skating and stick skills to be aggressive but just doesn’t, so it should be an easy fix, he just needs to be told. It’s obviously too late for him to develop any confidence doing it but he will have to try. It sucks because he is an excellent dude but he needs to start helping the team win.

I realize that Backlund and Neal also failed on that 3 on 3 rush, but that's beer league gap control from Hamonic. The second pairing has been getting eaten alive on zone entires and exits. Look at the gap Hanifin, following Mackinnon to the boards, gave Makar on his goal.

what is he doing??

Hamonic alone had 3 or 4 passes from his zone right to the tape of the avs forwards last game. Hanifin almost gave the game away in regulation by taking an obviously overwhelmed and panicky penalty right after Rantanen scored.

Give them less ice time ffs Peters. They're playing with much less composure and confidence than the all rookie pairing. Valimaki should have never sat so long for Fantenberg in the first place.

Compare that to the Avs D who has been swarming the puck carrier right when they cross the blue line. Like Jesus Christ, look how much space he gives him. You wouldn’t like that in pre-season let alone the playoffs. Big reason the Flames are down is awful lazy defence. The D has been floating for large parts of shifts and puck watching. Exactly what Hamonic was doing on the winning goal. Hamonic, Hanifin, Brodie have been beyond awful. The rookie D have look way better and if that second pairing starts sucking it’s time to move them down. Valimaki made more plays last game than Hanifin has during the entire series. Not good!

I was pumped for game one, and nervous for games 3 and 4. I'm feeling a kind of serenity right now. No nerves, no fear. The boys got this. 4-1for the good guys.
