We've dropped our latest (Midterm) ranking for the 2022 NHL Draft class over at FCHockey, with Shane Wright retaining the top spot. Felt no need to move him based on what we've seen.
The top-100: https://nhlentrydraft.com/rankings/
The first-round breakdown: https://nhlentrydraft.com/news/wrigh...022-nhl-draft/
We'll be releasing our top risers and fallers shortly, so stay tuned for that!
Enjoy!

I'm hitching my wagon to Owen Beck for the Flames in this draft. That kids got a shot, Holy. And it's emphatically powerful.

Saw a recent video reminding me that Chicago has to give Columbus their 2022 1st round pick as long as it isn’t 1st or 2nd overall. They would pick 9th overall based on the standings right now but I think they could still finish in the bottom 5/6 this season. What a disaster spot for them to have traded their first round pick.
Columbus will be cheering for them to keep dropping but still lose the draft lottery. They could end up with two picks in the top ten and get Lambert or Savoie from the Seth Jones trade.

A few notes from Elite Prospects:
-Juraj Slafkovsky, the 17 year-old, 6'4" LW is turning heads this year, first dominating the Finnish U20 Liiga (18pts in 11 games), and now has 5 goals in 5 games at the Olympics, to go with a +5 rating. Not only is he tied for the tourney's goal-scoring lead with Lucas Wallmark (and 5th in points), he is turning heads with his playmaking abilities and off-puck play. His draft stock continues to rise.
-After being knocked for not scoring more in the beginning of the season, Shane Wright has scored 17 points in his last 10 games.

After scoring two goals in the bronze medal game, Slafkovsky now leads all players at the Olympics with 7 goals in 7 games. Will be interesting how that will impact his draft stock ... he was obviously already a possible top 5 pick, but in a pretty average draft class and a postponed WJC tournament, that should boost his chances to even go higher.

brutal news for Ivan Miroshnichenko, who was widely expected to be a top pick this year.

I hope he still gets drafted.

All I can get

With two second rounders, a fifth and a seventh this year, I'm guessing Treliving swaps one of the seconds for a third, and either the fourth or seventh.
Pretty much his M.O.
* Obviously current list is subject to change.

Doesn't pertain to this draft, but didn't know where else to put it.
Connor Bedard certainly lived up to his billing, youngest ever to score 50 goals in the WHL.
51 goals and 100 points in his 16 year old season.
Finished 4th overall in scoring in the dub
Next closest on his team was 31 points behind him.

I think there are 3-4 players in next year's draft that would go easily over the top player of this draft.
And Bedard is at minimum at the Mackinnon type level.
One team is getting a franchise changing guy next year.

Next season certainly would not the be the worst one to start rebuilding in if Gaudreau decides to leave

Bedard is more like a better (at the same age) Patrick Kane than a Mackinnon. But yes, I agree. The 23 draft has much higher grade talent.

Was at the game last night. Was a fun send off for IRL hockey for me here at least... He definitely put it together through the season after his mediocre start (again.. this is just the eye test after watching live).
If the Pats can find a way to re-stock their cupboards next year, it will be an electric year for them and Bedard. Players who can actually help him elevate his game too, not just hanger-ons. Howe is an unbelievable pick up though, and the chemistry they showed through the season should translate well into next season and be fun to watch

Agreed that his size/skill set looks more similar to Kane.
But I think the hype/projection of bedard is probably similar to both. I think Kane/MacKinnon were similarly hyped going into their drafts.
My opinion on the hype level of players drafted first overall since Ovechkin entered the league is:
Top tier (“generational” talent that was hyped for 3+ years before being drafted): Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, Matthews
Second tier (highly touted a couple years before they were drafted as the player that will go #1 and is often considered better than most players in drafts before his draft year): MacKinnon, Kane, Tavares, Stamkos, Bedard
Third tier (consensus top pick early on in their draft year and stayed in that position when drafted first overall): Hall, Ekblad, Dahlin, Lafreniere, Hughes, Power, Wright
Fourth tier (no strong consensus on who should go #1 that year): Yakupov, Johnson, RNH, Hischier
