PS3 controller is straight out of 1997.
360 FTW.

From your criteria, not counting the PS3 media capability.
I would go for the 360. Games on both consoles are usually better on the 360. The controller is far superior. The Xbox Live service does cost money but it is superior to the free PS3 service. Both consoles are great. The PS3 is the superior console in terms of pure horsepower, but it all comes down to the games and the experience. Right now that is the Xbox 360.

Which is true, and sad considering both of those games are horrible. Better than the glitchfest that is Killzone though.

Lots of reasons for both I think. I have a 360 but have considered ditching it for a PS3 at times, because I generally don't play as many games as I used to and the media capabilities are probably more important to me now. Also, I do have xbox live but I very seldom play games online. It also seems to me most games I really want to play are on both systems anyways. I've had my 360 for a long time, but I think if I was making the buying decision today I might opt for the Ps3.
However I'm not sold that I really need blu-ray, I think more and more of my movie watching is going to come from streaming in the future.
One factor for me, and others have mentioned it, is the 360 controller. Feels much more comfortable to me. I could adjust to the ps3 controller but I really do prefer the 360 one quite a bit more.
At the end of the day its all about how your going to use the system and what exclusive games you really want to play.

Yay for fanboy logic.
The controller is personal preference, I like the PS3's over the 360, while others don't. This concept may be difficult to comprehend.

All comes down to personal preference.
Halo is a very fun game, but I only play it if there are friends over. Gears of War is a snorefest. Sprint here, stomp here, chainsaw, repeat for 8 hours.
Uncharted 2 freaking stomps on any 360 exclusive. It has fantastic story, great action, humor, best graphics on any console and one of the best voice acting in a game ever (after Mass Effect 2 and MGS4).

There are some people in the console debate that lose their right to an opinion. Exhibit A.

No. No it doesn't.
I am a nintendo fan boy. At the end of the day, I will play my Wii before 360 or PS3.
But in previous console generations it was N64 and PSX, Gamecube and PS2 annnnnd.... Wii60.
Why? the change? Because the PS3 is an inferior gaming machine. Sure it's a better media system, but for games? The exclusives and the way it plays multi-platformers just don't compare to the X-Box.
Uncharted is a glorfied Tomb Raider that plays more like a bad action movie than an action game. At least Halo has the claim to fame that it completely changed a genre, not played right into a cookie cutter of it.

PC FPSes say Hi. Every gameplay element for Halo was done on PC FPSes well before that Halo even hit the drawing board. Halo gameplay wise is really just a dumbed down PC FPS end of story. Halo universe and writing are good though.

Which is now the standard for all FPSes. They changed it.

Every console has their own gems, and I think all three of the current consoles compliment each other.
I don't do the online thing so that's not an issue for me, and I honestly don't play enough games to even have an opinion on which controller is better (I find it more frustrating learning the controls to a new game).
But for what it's worth, I play my 360 waaay more than I do my PS3. The PS3 has Ratchet and Clank and hopefully a new Kingdom Hearts someday which are two franchises I like a lot, but when I rent or borrow games, I usually do so on the 360--and I play my sports games on the 360.
And incidentally, last Wii game I played was Punch Out over a year ago. I don't regret owing that console, even though it collects dust most of the time these days. I am, and have always been, a Nintendo dweeb. They have some of the most solid, and FUN franchises out there. They just take their sweet time releasing games. Can't wait to get my hands on Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong, and the new Metroid.... one day.
Anyway, whichever console you get, I think you'll find that you'll have tons of fun with it.

I don't get the love for Uncharted 2. The game was so boring that I gave up partway through. I guess I find games like Super Meat Boy and Limbo to be far better than the generic crap that is passed off as a game these days.

The best experience I've had with any video game of the current generation was with Heavy Rain. Masterfully done, that is the best exclusive title to come out in years.
God of War 3 was another amazing experience this year. The scale of the fights were incredible, and it was non stop excitement for the entire game.
Uncharted is an excellent game. Great voice acting, visuals, level design, story and combat makes it an excellent campaign experience.
