I'm all for taking shots at Katz, but apparently the guy has had a life threatening sinus infection and 3 surgeries in the past year or so. Seems like poor form to take a run at him for that at this point.

Was just about to post: let's drop/edit the comments about his looks in hindsight. (Had it been the LA lifestyle, then fair game)

Yeah, though the suspected heavy cocaine use could absolutely lead to serious sinus infections.

Still very sad, especially seeing the before/after picture posted earlier.

Not taking a run at him, genuinely concerned and confused. Didn’t know it was for health reasons though.

I had no idea Katz was in such bad shape. I suppose the Oilers organization was good at one thing over the past few years and that's keeping his health status under wraps.

Yes... I knew you just miss interpreted what he had said - because I read your posting all the time, that's what made me laugh, mistakes are fun sometimes if you can laugh at them - I make them all the time (I just hope people laugh at them and correct me in a nice way).

He's gotta have his work cut out for him though. Don't, like, 98% of the league players have Edmonton on their no trade list?

edit: Yeah, didn't see the report on his illness. Poor form from me. Hope for the best regarding the infection.

The only way for the Oilers to have success is to draft and develop. These are 2 things the Oilers are not known for. Holland will likely be done within 3 years and just collect his salary while living the dream somewhere far away from Mullet town

It's one thing to get good people in place and another for it to work out. Plenty of successful coaches and GM's have changed teams and it hasn't worked out. For all the hoopla in the Toronto market with Babcock, Lamoriello, Dubas, etc it's netted less playoff series victories this decade than even the Flames. Given the Oilers roster, prospect base, and salary cap structure the greatest GM in the history of sports would have his work cut out for him and even at that it's very unlikely the marriage results in anything meaningful.

Yes, they're notorious for their ability to remain low-profile and not call attention to themselves.

If he has needed multiple surgeries and continuous IV antibiotics it has progressed further than a simple resistant sinus infection. My best guess is that he has brain abscess secondary from his infection that it may be necrotizing requiring the need for multiple washouts and debridements.

After listening to that press conference, it is pretty clear the Oilers found the right man to lead them in 1920.

Katz doesn't look like he's going to be around much longer.

Legitimately, it might be early symptoms of Parkinson's Disease. Between him and Katz it appears that being associated with the Oilers is taking its toll on their health. I'm not saying that to be snarky either, I think it's a real concern.
