It's not like the NBA doesn't do this to itself - the transactions are more important than the basketball. Toronto has a chance to sign the best player in the world who just won them a title.

They're excited. Sue them. It's not like Kawhi hasn't known the possible options he'd consider for twelve months; everyone else who was anyone signed three days ago, and we're still in limbo.

Nah, they are not Vancouver style professional rioters, just creepy stalkers.

Can players write restraining orders in to NBA contracts?

This Kawhi thing is really strange compared to any other big name free agent situation that I can think of. I keep flip flopping in my mind thinking he is going Lakers/Clippers/Raptors. Currently I am thinking he goes to the Clippers since that has been the least mentioned/quietest team of late. I really hope I am wrong and he returns to Toronto though.

His camp certainly knows how to ratchet up the anticipation and tension.

So once again more contradictory reporting. I am convinced no one really knows anything. Better off to just turn off the media streams and wait til an official announcement is made on this thing.

Kawhi Update: Raptors had strong meeting yesterday. Drake heavily involved. Talked of having Kawhi involved w/his OVO record label. Kawhi in deep soul searching. Wants Lakers but wants to make sure Big 3 will fit/work. Clippers out. It’s btwn Lakers & Raptors. Very close.

If he went to the Clippers I could understand and it would make sense but if he goes to the Lakers I will lose respect for him. He always said he didn't particularly like Lebron James and that he wanted to be the man on the court. Joining two other top players to make a superteam is contradicting to that and honestly cheapens any titles they win. It would be bad for basketball.

How Broussard stays employed is a mystery, because in the last week he's taken every single position on this. So as far as people to ignore, he's the biggest to ignore.

I imagine that loses some of its lustre after you've won twice without him, including once when you personally locked him down.

The bigger problem with playing with LeBron is if you win he gets all the credit, and if you lose he avoids all the blame. No doubt if somehow they don't win it all as a big 3 AD and Kawhi will eat 99% of the blame.

It just says 2-year deals haven't been "discussed". But what is there to discuss from the Raptors perspective? I'm not that familiar with the NBA CBA but doesn't he just sign for the max amount (regardless of where he goes) and then Kawhi decides the term (in Toronto's case, 1+1)? I don't get the sense there is really any contract negotiations happening -- it's just a matter of where he wants to sign.

I think the bigger problem with playing with LeBron is that he's asked management to gut the last two teams he's been on mid-season (even after saying all the right things about patience in the preseason). If, say, Kawhi wants his load management and the team is struggling and LeBron gets pissed and tells ownership he wants Kawhi out for more reliable players, what are the Lakers going to do? Is Kawhi going to win any power-struggle amongst the three superstars?

Yeah, fair enough - at least from Toronto's perspective, it's a situation where Kawhi can have whatever contract he likes. But it sounds like he wants to max now rather than later.

Load management could be an issue with the Lakers lake of depth, particularly since LBJ and AD have some recent injury issues. Mind you the Raptors are also a little less deep after the Gasoline trade and depending on whether Green resigns.

Random comment: Danny Green seems like an awesome guy. I hope he resigns. He’s even doing a camp in Winnipeg this week. His podcasts are fun and apparently he’s working towards a broadcast career post-NBA

So MLSE jet flew to SD earlier today and is just landing back at Pearson. Raptors also have the press room booked for later today. Might be the end of the Kawhi watch. Reading all the tasteless bs from the Lakers fans I will be pissed if he signs there.

Well if that’s true it seems unlikely MLSE would fly out u less they are signing a contact and bringing him back no?

Hopefully some good news coming
