Quick cap question, if Taylor Halls cap hit for the season is $6 mil what would we be taking on from game 35 and on? Cap Friendly shows that we have ~$3.2 mil in cap space right now, what would we have to dump to fit him in?

I'm not a huge Hall fan but the death by 1000 minor deals is such a Flames thing and why they never get over the hump into true contender status. Instead of doing 1000s of tiny small deals sapping away our assets to stay middle of the pack, go all in for once. I argue that Stone should have been that target but that's water under the bridge now.

Our core players:
Giordano: 2 more years on a good deal, window closing
Gaudreau: 2 more years on a great deal, prime
Monahan: 3 more years on a great deal, prime
Lindholm: great deal, prime
Tkachuk: 2 more years on a reasonable deal, entering prime
Brodie: prime, great but expiring deal
Backlund: late-prime, reasonable deal
Rittich: entering prime, 1 more year on a great deal
This team is as 'go all in now' as any team in the NHL

I think there will be a lot of bottom feeders selling top 6 forwards at the trade deadline; who ever misses out on Hall will have many options in February

The list is quite a bit shorter then you might think.

Its pretty well Hall, or no one. Seeing as how Hoffman, and the Panthers are trending to be a playoff team.

There are only 4 teams out of it in the east (including NJ), and 4 or 5 in the west.
It's pretty tight this year (so far)

I have mixed fillings about a possible Hall acquisition.
On one hand, I do think that this team lacks a top 6 forward, and bringing in a guy like Hall would re-slot a few players creating benefits almost down the entire line up.
On the other hand, I don’t think he’s precisely what they need, and I’ve never been a fan of his overall game. I think he’s evolved in NJ but I don’t watch them closely enough to make a firm assessment of that.
So it comes down to acquisition cost. I would be totally comfortable moving players like Kylington and Sam as the key parts of a deal.
I would prefer not to deal the 1st for this year, Valimaki, or Dube.

Agree with this and the bad deals (Lucic) and the buyout cap hits aren't going away this year either.
Maybe its time to #### or get off the pot with this core group of players.
Which makes for an interesting predicament. If you go all in this year, is Ward the guy you want at the helm?

Flames gotta make this one count in my eyes. Lost out on to many deals/ FA signings that made rivals better. Gotta take that next step to keep up with Arz,Vgk, Stl and Col. If they don't I have no expectations for them to make it very far in the playoffs. I just don't see this team beating VGK,STL or COL in a best of 7.
I'm not very hopeful because I can't remember the last time Calgary landed a big name player.

Hall would be fun to have on the team for the remainder of the season if the acquisition cost wasn't much. He would be fun to have long term if it was a reasonable contract.
Neither will be the case, I'd rather we sit this one out.

The Avs loaded up in the off season. The Yotes loaded up with Kessel and if they add Hall... the Blues being the Blues... If the Flames actually care about making it out the West they almost need to do something. Not confident they can beat Dallas in a series either. They need to stop this "haha some sucker payed good money for high end talent we are the smartest guys in the room we traded a second for Lazar" and other reclamation projects train of thought.

My dentist had me switch out my amalgam fillings and on a bit of research, too little too late, I think it may have been a waste of money. The new ones look nicer I suppose, when I open my mouth really wide

The cost of acquisition will definitely make us all squirm, but if the pay off is a trip to the final it will feel worth it to me. Up until this year I was a wait and see kind of a guy, but this is the right time. The cupboard are bare, we have the picks, we could make the cap space. As long as they don't trade Valimaki, or both of their next two 1st round picks I will be okay with it. Even if that means goodbye to a guy like Dube.

Capfriendly has the Flames with $3.2m in space. Both today, and on Trade Deadline day. So only half of the $6m needs to be accomodated.
This will be affected by the return of Valimaki though, via a potential demotion of Kylington.
Although either of them could very likely be included in the Hall trade.
If I were to guess, I'd foresee;
Frolik, Bennett, Kylington, and a First.
