It's not like you can go 16-0 on your way to winning a Stanley Cup, but just letting everyone know I'm basically treating every loss like it's the end of the world.

They don’t give full brackets that I can see but only 2 have us making the finals and several have Vegas or SJ, meaning a 2nd round loss.

I’m shocked at how many picked the Preds or Jets to make the final. Both teams look weaker than last year.

I think we will hate Landeskog, Nemeth and Zadorov. Probably a few others as well, but these come to mind as players that play with an edge to their game and will look to blow guys up when they can.

Don’t forget being wildly pessimistic so you can say I told you so if we lose.

Remember, predicting we’ll lose is always the easier choice, because more often than not, and this goes for any team, you’ll be right. It doesn’t even matter what you use as justification. Inconsistent goaltending, sputtering offence, poor special teams, lack of size, history of underachieving. Just pick a few, say we’re gonna lose (don’t even need to specify which round) and you’ll almost certainly be right.

Then don’t forget to mention you predicted this from the start once it’s all over and we’re doing the off-season autopsy.

Tkachuk and Landeskog will be getting very familiar with each other.

Bennett will also be a focus for the Avs. They likely still remember Bennett running Compher over at the beginning of the season which put him out for a bit. I'm sure they also remember Bennett beating down Cole after he hit Jankowski.

Zadorov is a guy the Flames should be able to get under the skin of and draw some penalties. There won't be any need at all to fight him.

Two writers have picked the Flames to make a SC appearance (Campbell, Cotsonika); two have picked VGK (Compton, Morreale); two have picked SJ (Gulitti, Jensen).

The Predators seem to be a sexy pick: four contributors have them in the Finals (Douglas, Price, Roarke, Zeisberger).

The Flames, Lightning and the Capitals are the only teams to have been unanimously picked to win their first round series.

I will settle for a return to post-season Grubauer.

Dom Luszczyszyn from the athletic gives the Flames a 63.8% chance to advance, citing the flames much superior depth on attack and defense, but a weakness in goal.

The Avalanche are rolling into the postseason on a serious hot streak, but the Flames have been equally impressive. The real test for the Avalanche begins now and what they’ll need more than anything is for their goalie to keep playing out of his mind in order to have a decent chance here.

For Calgary, the goalies just need to give the team a chance to win, period. That means don’t fall apart and the talented group of forwards and the capable defence in front of them will take care of the rest. It’s worked for most of the season with the team carrying a bottom third save percentage into the playoffs.

The Flames are a very talented team, finally realizing their potential after a couple of seasons of failing to live up to the hype, a similar trajectory to another Western Canada team that made some serious noise last season. The Flames are a more flawed team than last year’s Jets, but they can make a similar amount of noise this year. As long as they play their game and goaltending doesn’t sink them, the first test shouldn’t be a difficult one.
moneypuck.com gives the flames a 61.1% chance of advancing:

Go Flames! I dreamt that the Flames beat Colorado twice in the first two games handily. Hoping for a long run

Sick graph but the numbers are way outta whack. NYI over PIT? CAR over WAS? STL over WIN by 25%? DAL over NAS? The rest seem pretty good. I’d maybe say BOS is 55%

I can tell that the writers out East have no clue what goes on in the Western Conference by their weird love for the Sharks.

Large market - check
Top three in the division - check
Has big names on the team - check
Sure let's go with the Sharks out west.

This is not a problem that is unique to the Flames.
The real benchmark then is how do the Flames fare in low scoring games. I can't find a site that lets you see this easily, but I'd be interested to see the Flames record in games with 5 goals or less scored total compared to the rest of the league. This site shows the Flames at an 11-8 record in 1 goal games which isn't great, but that's also including a bunch of high scoring games (6-5, etc) so not really a playoff predictor
