I'm the same. Only had a flu shot once in my life when my first kid was born. Never had any symptoms from that nor did I get any from my COVID shots but I imagine that varies from person to person depending on general health and strength of your immunity system.

I know a few people who got completely hammered by their first shot, and don't want to go through another round.

5 and 7 here. 5 year old didn't even slow down. 7 year old went to bed early that night and slept longer than normal.

Well, in this case, it did nothing. Statistically, you'd probably get the same answer.

Not getting a shot that lower the outcome of having a bad outcome due to COVID because you felt crappy for a couple days after the vaccine is an idiotic decision.

I thought flu vaccination rates were higher.

I hope we see an increase in rates after the covid vaccination campaign. The same reasons for getting a covid shot apply for the flu shot.

We should really be making a bigger effort to increase the flu vaccination levels year per year.

I was actually surprised to learn how many people died each year, but I always have older family & friends that really struggle with it. There simply isn't enough awareness around it.

I know a few people like this. It wasn't just garden variety flu crappy, the effects were severe enough they were actually hospitalized for a week.

Family members are still trying to convince to get the second dose, but these people are adamant they don't want another one. I'm just an outsider who'd suggest getting the second dose as well, but these people's heels are dug in because of the extreme reaction they had to the first dose. It's not like you can drag a grown ass adult in and force them to get an immunization either.

This isnít the majority of people who are getting one shot. Alberta has recorded 2000 adverse reactions to vaccines.

^^ yeah I'm as pro-vaccine as it gets, but hard to fault someone who was really hospitalized for over a week with a vaccine adverse event to have some second thoughts- but as you mention- how many of those are there total in Alberta? let alone in the same social circle

If you want to see the worst of the worst, go to one of those Facebook threads and mention your child or grandchild being vaccinated.

I dare you.

I keep seeing a "report" that there are over 400 cases of vaccine injuries at the Alberta Children's Hospital. This was sent to me by my husband as a screenshot of a facebook post. So I said, isn't it funny that it's one guy claiming he heard it on the radio? Why is this the only place reporting it? Also, 770 news is a Global station, why hasn't this been on the news? And the original post says the most disgusting part is that people are doing this to their own flesh and blood....

Anyway, did some research and said, it's not on their website, this is the only place I've heard this, I call BS. It's amazing how willing people are to take what some guy on the internet says as fact.

AHS has commented on this. On their twitter they've stated they haven't had any pediatric hospitalizations, and only 2036 reports of adverse effects from about 7 million doses. In Canada as of Nov 26 from 60 million doses there were serious adverse events in 0.011%.

The new anti vax stuff I'm seeing is from this FDA/Pfizer post marketing document. So many misinterpretations, and crazy statements flying around. They keep pushing that there were 1200 deaths in the first 90 days. All the adverse events in this document were self reported, 40% were not medically confirmed, and none have been linked to the vaccine necessarily. It's just a monitoring system to look for signals. There were 42,000 reports, some with multiple events, so it ends up being 150,000 events, most of which are mild (headache, nausea, fever).

The thing most of them are ignoring, is that it isn't 1200 deaths out of 42,000, it's out of all the doses between December 2020, and February 28th 2021, so that's something like 40 million doses or more. So just incredibly low numbers, from a mostly older, immunocompromised group. Just incredibly frustrating conversations to have.

If anything that would make me want to get the next shot more. We know some people for whatever reason seem to be much more susceptible to getting very ill from COVID. It stands to reason if your body had a difficult time with the vaccine that that contracting the virus could put them in serious peril.

You actually know multiple people who were hospitalized for a week after getting the vaccine? You should consider playing the lottery.

I'd probably get a shot if it could help avoid this:

Across America, many of the nearly 50 million people infected with the coronavirus continue to suffer from some persistent symptoms, with a smaller subset experiencing such unbearable fatigue and other maladies that they can’t work, forcing them to drop out of the workforce, abandon careers and rack up huge debts.

Hard data is not available and estimates vary widely, but based on published studies and their own experience treating patients, several medical specialists said 750,000 to 1.3 million patients likely remain so sick for extended periods that they can’t return to the workforce full time.
