This is where I see coach Q landing, if the Flyers are willing to pay that is.

How strange.

So the coach survives?

Don't the flyers employ Dean Lombardi in some capacity? I could see him taking the reins.

And selecting his own coach, of course.

From this quote sounds like Hextall was unwilling to do something Holmgren or ownership wanted him to do.

Not entirely sure that Gritty wasn't Hextall. And that's why he's gone - he didn't like having to wear the costume.

Do you think they bring up Hart now?

With cap space RN of $9,836,878 and guys like Giroux, Couturier, Voracek, Simmonds and Gostisbehere already there... they are a few smart decisions away from being pretty dangerous. Interesting that they decided that Hextall wasn't the guy to pull it all together.

And that's also without mentioning Patrick, JVR and a few others that have potential to produce a lot more... a new GM could very well enter next year with a contender. And as Moneyhands pointed out... they could do it with Q at the helm.

Pretty exciting for Flyers fans, and hilarious as Flames fans watching them put the wheels in motion well before the Oilers have seriously considered it. Anyone that they had pegged as a dream [insert any job that needs to be filled] could very well have moved their focus out east if they thought that a re-organizing team with a few valuable pieces was an enticing next step for their career.

They are never going to contend until they solve goaltending. It's been their Achilles for decades.

This would make a ton of sense. Lombardi is a great team building GM. I'd hire Lombardi as GM until the Flyers are good and then move him into an advisory role because he makes most of his mistakes while tweaking a contender

Presumably a disagreement over firing Hakstol. It'll be interesting to see who wanted to fire him and who wanted to keep him.

That’s a weird thing to include. They could have omitted that sentence and it would have been much better.

Hextall did a commendable job there. People may forget what a mess their contract situation and prospect base were when he got there and he built it up theough shrewed drafting and good cap management. He did however get killed on the B. Schenn trade.

I would assume that since Hakstol wasn't fired at the same time, then that means the Flyers wanted to keep him.

As I said, just an assumption though.

Unless Holmgren side "Fire Hakstol" and his assistant heard "Fire Hextall"
