Murphy ran the defense. Chris Pryor was Hextall's right hand man and responsible for drafting.

#Flyers announce they have fired assistant GM Chris Pryor and assistant coach Gord Murphy.

Apparently Hakstol told Holmgren to fire Murphy. Murphy was kept on by Hextall when Hakstol was hired
Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
#Flyers president Paul Holmgren said in statement Murphy's firing was "in close consultation with Dave Hakstol." He also said: "We do not anticipate any further personnel moves in the near term."

Geez, what a mess. I thought Hextall did OK generally as a GM, but you can't hire a head coach and keep an assistant he doesn't want.

Who is to say the new GM won't be able to relieve Hakstol and bring in his own guy?

This is hilarious.
Is it the Philadelphia Flyers or a Cinnabon?
We may never know.

There's only one man capable of taking over the GM position and delivering what is needed.

The owners obviously know what the organization needs to be successful, they just need the right guy to pull the strings!

Anyone reading those 2 posts would have no clue where either of us stood
I actually liked Jay! I'm happier with our long-term GM of course, but I always think of Johnny when I see that face

Do you also think of Chris Butler, Mark Cundari, Kenny Agostino and Ben Hanowski? Or Dennis Wideman?
Or maybe you think of ROR.

Flyers fire Hextall
Re: “Hextall gone but Chia not” comments...
Sounds like the difference is that in Phillly’s case, no matter how disagreeable either side’s “plan” was, the GM & Ownership were at odds.
In EDM, owner and GM are on EXACTLY the same page: “Make The ‘80s Great Again”.
It probably won’t even matter when the (c)Oil DO fire Chia, so long as the current meddlers remain.
So, I guess the conclusion is:
Nothing can save the Oilers.
Not even the bumbling example set by the Flyers, from which one might expect the Oilers to learn.
No one.

The Philly owners were unhappy with Hextall's patience. They wanted bold moves. We know what that means.

Dave Nonis huh
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
PHI has asked for and received permission from ANA to talk to Dave Nonis about the Flyers GM job. Chuck Fletcher and Bill Zito are the other candidates, to this point.

They're not looking at any Oilers Alum? But they know so much about winning!
