Especially in a thread which is already addressing far larger issues.

I mean, can you even imagine turning a Phillips head fastener, and thinking to yourself "Man, this is better than a Robertson." ?

Just utter lunacy.

Not gonna lie, feels amazing seeing Phillips thrive right now in the A. If you followed the CHL prospect thread you would know that I was one of his biggest hype posters on their being from Victoria and seeing him play for 2 years. Dude just has so much skill but let’s pull the reigns on this. He needs a full season of putting up high numbers in the A before he gets to the show

He can replace Jankowski anytime.
Tre needs to ship Junkowski out.....as for Phillips on top line no way.....Lindholm is a far more complete player and compliments that line very well.

Lot's of arguments on our team size being lacking but I just don't think that's the real issue. I know physical size is a factor but what seems to get overlooked is the ability to play bigger or stronger.

Johnny is small and plays like a small weak player. Prior to this season, even physically bigger guys like Mony or Janko played like they were small players and constantly losing puck battles.

You look around the league at small guys that play a much bigger game than some of our big guys.

Brendan Gallagher, Brad Marchand, Viktor Arvidsson, Tyler Johnson, Jonathan Marchessault, Paul Byron, etc etc.

I think if I were to put more emphasis on size, it would be on defense because the ability to disrupt a cycle using physical size is a lot easier when you're not as skilled. Our defense is buttery soft and most of our dmen go into the corner like they are cooking up pork chops trying not to get burned by the grease.

In terms of cycling down low on the offensive side, I think being strong on your edges and knowing how to stay balanced is more important. Look no farther than 5'11 Crosby.

Guys like Bennett are tough as nails but when it comes to skating, they get knocked down with a thrust of air from a dyson hand dryer.

He was great as a Royal! Man I hope he pans out! I think he may need 2 full seasons mainly in the Ahl though.

Pretty amazing top 6 there IMO
Except for the AHL player on right wing. He couldn't beat anyone out in training camp. I haven't seen him play or anything, by 15 points in 13 games in the AHL is not an amazing NHL right winger.

Maybe one day, and maybe he gets a chance, but he needs to continue to show improvement to get there.

Agreed on those guys and hoping Phillips can make an impact when he gets another shot.

I'm curious why Buddy Robinson isn't getting lumped in with the group deserving of a call up? He is a RW, is tied for 3rd in team scoring with 12 pts in 13 games, and leads the team with 8 goals. Is he just playing above his head right now and not a guy whose game will translate to the NHL as well as the others?

That's why Phillips will be such an effective Flame: he can strip the puck from anyone.

Leading candidates... Jankowski, Czarnik, Reider, Frolik

Phillips's time will soon come, he's also a right shot as is Gawdin.

Moving forward (in the years to come) might we see something like this...

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Backlund-Tkachuk
Bennett-Gawdin-Phillips
Pelletier-Dubé-Zavgorodny

Nice to see three 21/22 year old forwards leading the Heat in scoring with point per game or better.

Hopefully it translates into NHLers soon.

No rush to bring up Phillips. Let him play the full season in the AHL this season and see what he brings next training camp. What I saw in the pre-season was a player that wasn't ready, I doubt he has it all figured out after 13 games in the AHL.

He's never been a scorer at any point of his career and didn't look particularly good at training in camp, I'd assume that he's just on a hot streak.

Phillips and Johnny together on the PP would probably be amazing

I don’t see Dube on the fourth line, though he can do it - he’s a plug and play guy who could go from complementary first liner in a pinch 4th line grinder.

though this year he seems to have not found his game 100%

I thought Czarnik looked really good lately up until his injury. I liked him on the 2nd line over Frolik, Mangiapane, Bennett or any other flavor of the week.
