Five-year survival rate of 1%, but he's vowing to fight it through the duration of his contract at least.

Thankfully hosting Jeopardy isn't a demanding job. They film a week's worth of shows in a day so he'll have lots of time to live life and be with family.

You gotta think that the job is probably what keeps him sharp. The guy doesn't look older than 60, and he reads and speaks like he's still at the top of his game.
Jeopardy will be weird whenever he moves on. It's the very best of the classic game shows. No cheese (well, the stupid story each contestant has to tell is often lame A-F), always interesting and fun if you're a trivia geek, Final Jeopardy wagering is often interesting, and the evolution of Final Jeopardy music has also been fun to remember over the literally 30+ years I've used the show as a go-to when I'm looking for something to watch.
Good luck, Alex.

Really sucks reading this. I've watched one version or another of Jeopardy since i was a wee lad (though they stopped production for a few years way back) making Alex Trebek a long time part of my life. He has done this for 35 freaking years now. A fine Canadian
I remember his predecessor as well in Art Fleming who coincidentally died from pancreatic cancer almost 25 years ago. He did the show for 11 years.

My grandma died of it. She was a tough lady who raised nine kids and dealt with an abusive, alcoholic husband. It started in her lungs but she didn't go to the doctor until it had spread. Even at the end, she had to be forced to take pain killers. That was a horrible goodbye.
I had the pleasure of meeting Alex two summers ago.
The family and I were exploring the Fortress of Louisbourg. He was in the same building we were, I pointed him out to my wife, who then stalked him with her sister, chatted up his wife and got a picture.
As the skies went from hot and sunny to an absolute downpour we ended up next to each other waiting for the rain to calm down. We chatted for a minute, but about the weather, I never mentioned Jeopardy. You could see in his eyes he was happy to be treated like just another person... that was until some 20 something turned the corner with his girlfriend and screamed "You're Alex Trebek, the guy from Jeopardy, I watch you on TV with my dad" at the top of his lungs and pointing. The least smooth thing I've ever witnessed.
Alex was a nice guy, when we watch Jeopardy my wife and I joke that he's our toddler's buddy as he was a baby in a stroller there.
Sad to hear, hope the very best medical professionals can help him.
