Play like last night and this team would win. I reckon they are going to treat this game as a chance to trot out some different players so Sutter can see what he's got.

This is obviously a must win game tonight if they want a hope in hell of getting back into the mix. I think they'll do it, mostly because the Sens are terrible. Flames are easily the better team in this match-up, and if their effort level is similar to last night I don't see how they don't come away with 2 points.

It would be nice to go into the Sutter era on a winning note.

Be interesting to see if DS asks for Bennett to be inserted tonight.

If not, boy is that going to be an interesting conversation when they are finally face to face and I think shows us where the new boss stands on Stan.

A win today will keep them in reasonable striking distance with a few days to right the ship under Sutter, so here's hoping.

Personally, the Tkachuk-Lindholm pairing is a failure and should be abandoned. Tkachuk is more noticeable and effective plaing with Backlund. I also think that Lindholm is getting a lot of cover for not really being a high end 1C because Monahan still notionally has that title. I prefer the 2 together.

I would like to see them try to give Ryan a bigger role. He's such a good player and he's getting buried in the line up to facilitate Lindholm and Monahan on different lines, which isn't leading to 5v5 production for anyone.

Gaudreau Monahan Lindholm
Tkachuk Backlund Mangiapane
Lucic Ryan Dube
Nordstrom Bennett Ritchie

Leivo is one of the most irritating players that I can remember. Guy skates the puck into traffic, makes bizarre dump ins instead of passing to his skilled linemates, and takes an extra beat to shoot while goalies get set. Drives me crazy.

BSD can really help out a tired team with a great game today.

Last thought... Nestorov over Kylington is bizarre to me. The guy has zero points and is -8 in 19 games. I don't think he ought to be locking down that spot as much as he is.

Gonna get worse before it gets better.
Team looked tired yesterday and I expect will be today too. Sens will come out with more jump to avenge their last game between the two and the teeter totter results between these 2 teams will continue.

Rittich starts.
Stan in for Nordstrom. He was a little banged up.
Kylington in for Nesterov.

These are my predictions.

I liked Ritchie’s game last night. I actually thought Flames played OK on balance. Problem is we just need results now.

I just want a good and consistent effort by the team tonight. A win is important for the playoff race though.

With Sutter coming in the next few days, there are going to be some growing pains too, potentially.

I'm hoping they roll with Marky again just to get him back up to speed.

I too would like to see Kylingtom draw back in.

Hopefully they wait until Daryll gets to the dome before they slot Bennett back in. Sounds weird but I think he needs a serious sit down with the boss to iron out what they want from him.

I want Bennett to succeed here. In a big way. But I also think this time away from games is needed to clear his head and give him the freshest start possible with Daryll holding the reins.

Not expecting much again tonight. That was a tough loss last night and this team is still mentally fragile. So I'll continue with my low expectations and just hope we see some progress on consistent effort.

Given the math the Flames need to get on a bit of a roll ...

With a coaching change that may not happen over night, but it almost needs to if they want to get to that 8 games over .500 level or whatever they need.

Had better win tonight, get back to .500 and then go to work with Sutter.

Math like that is always interesting. It's daunting right now, but if you win three in a row it's doesn't seem as steep.

Especially with every single game a proverbial "4 pointer".

This division is a glorified round robin so the math on making up ground is easy. You beat the teams you’re competing with and standings change quickly. It’s doing it that’s going to be the hard part.

Losing a 4 pointer to the Oilers really stunk.

Get the win tonight for an even .500 record before Sutter steps behind the bench. See what he can do with this team in the final 30 games. In my opinion the new season starts Tuesday

I’m not sure why you’d play Markstrom again. First game back from injury and you play him back to back with travel, at home against the worst team in the league? Sounds like something Ward would do TBQH.

Ritchie has been good every game he's played. Don't know why Ward took him out after his first two games.

In the past two games, he's done more on the 4th line than Leivo and Simon have on the "first line" all season long.

Yeah it'd be incredibly stupid to play Markstrom again. One of the biggest reasons the Canucks were hesitant to sign him to the long term deal was the injury history.

We have Rittich this season, I think the split should be 60/40 or 65/35 in favour of Markstom.

For the rest of Markstrom's term here, Flames aren't going to have the luxury of having a back up the quality of Rittich here. They need to maintain this Markstrom investment.

Or, if they do bring it over to the new building, then they better not break it like Edmonton did with theirs. It always sounded awful, but it's much worse now than it has ever been.

Flames really need a win and if they play like they did in the first period last night that should happen. I would guess there might be a lineup change or two to get some fresh bodies in.
