Perhaps I will be in the minority but I didn’t think that was one of his worst hits.
Surprised by the suspension.

Surprised but happy. I don’t like hitting players that are engaged already. Especially when they don’t see it coming.

Seen quite a few much worse “boarding” plays this year.
In the explanation I imagine history and the injury were bigger factors.

I can see where you're coming from, a few more inches to the right and that's not a bad hit.

But as it happened I agree with and like a long suspension for how it played out

Agreed. He definitely could have hit 100% body if he wanted to

And two idiot referees who watched the play didn’t even think it was a 2 minute penalty. The NHL has an officiating problem between stuff like this and all the game management bull####!!

With this guy, he is a predator for sure

At 5 suspensions, at some point the league has to say that's enough you are banned

Ovi says 7 games for the hit is a joke. There wasn't a penalty and he thinks it shouldn't be a suspension either.

Lol I guess you have to say crap like that when its someone on your team but it sure would be great if a player called out a teammate for crap like that.

Just from a Flames viewpoint: early in the season v Vancouver I think, one of our D got ran from behind into the end boards.
Valimaki or Anderson.

Lowry’s hit on Kyllington in that outdoor game was worse. IMO.

Ask most Oiler fans and they would say Ritchie hit on Chaisson was boarding.

Gallagher Nurse, nurse on Gallagher. Those were very dangerous into the boards.

Fiala against Kings pretty awful.

I mean, the guy openly supports Putin so it makes sense.

Agree - and for each of those suspensions, one could probably find several hits that were worthy of suspensions or fines. He’s a predator and the league would be better off without him.

I don’t think that’s a fair criticism to make of a guy.

Look at Panarin. Unfortunately there’s serious consequences to opposing Putin publicly. His families well being would likely be at risk if he were to come out against him.

I take any positive thing any Russian says about Putin with a huge grain of salt. Huge.

As has been previously discussed though, Ovechkin is a special case. He isn't just supportive of Putin, they're actually reasonably close. It's clearly not something he's doing because he thinks he has to - he is a genuine, fervent Putin supporter.

Wilson isn't just a predator....he's an entitled POS that behaves as though the refs owe him because he's somehow special .

Oh your special Tommy...and one day you Will hit thr wrong guy and your career will be over.

Your worse than Cooke, Marchand and or any other example of a guy who has been given way way way too many chances to continue in the league.

I don't understand for one minute how this guy is in the league anymore.

Nothing deters him from being a POS . Fines, suspensions just don't get his attention. There's no way he should get to come back after this last incident.

When he hits a superstar in this league and injures them costing said team X number of games , thr playoffs , their season and the NHL does another about face I hope someone gets sued.

There's no place in the league for this shirt.

He could see Carlo's numbers the whole time.

I don't think he'll ever get it.

This guy could have been a premier player in the NHL but just couldn’t (wouldn’t?) learn his lesson.

That’s too bad and I hope Carlo makes a speedy and full recovery.

Not making excuses, but Ovechkin is a Moscow guy. His family, for generations, probably understood that the more you suck up to the big boss, the better for the family. You try to stand up to the big boss, you accidentally fall out of a window.

Ovi just strikes me as the kind of guy who probably doesn't give a #### about politics, but his people tell him to enthusiastically support him while he's in America, so he does. Or more sinister, the government itself is exerting pressure on him.

I agree that he probably doesn't care much about politics, but it's more than just sucking up. He's the Russian equivalent of a fervent Trumpist. I suspect he just thinks it's the right thing to do as a good patriotic Russian to be on the same side as the leader of your county. Also probably thinks it's kind of cool that he gets to be so buddy buddy with the most powerful man in his country. But it's pretty clear that he's genuine in his support.
