He will. He will bring back accountability, purpose, and a team first edict. It won't happen instantly and some new players will be brought in to get to a point where he wants the team to be. But he is an excellent coach.
There was one game in 2004 (I can't remember which one), but the Flames won in a dramatic fashion. The Red Deer Rebels were also playing that night and Phaneuf was on the team. The reporter said "Darryl, what do you have to say about tonight's win?" He responds, "What happened in the junior game?"

He definitely talked WAY more as a player, but it's interesting watching this interview and hearing a lot of the same philosophies he has today as a coach.

I have watched a lot of Darryl Sutter interviews and specials over the last little while since he has taken over.
The more I hear him talk as a player, the more he reminds me of Stallone. His voice and the manner in which he speaks may get you to think he isn't very bright, but when you actually listen to what he says, you start to quickly understand exactly how smart and how hard working they are. It becomes infectious, and downright motivating. I don't need to listen to motivational speakers - just let me listen to Darryl for 10 minutes, and I will accomplish more in the 10 minutes right after it than the 2 days before hand.

Darryl Sutter's hatred of the Oilers runs deep and long. How very natural.

My favourite part of this was his comment about he doesn't want to coach 31 teams and certain guys can pick and choose where they want to go. Then the comment that there are some long term coaches who have never won and seem to hang around coaching whomever phones them (paraphrasing)
The question was asked by Oiler felater/play by play man Jack Michaels. Darryl knows that.
Do not discount that the comment “I’m not interested in coaching 31 teams” was Sutter’s subtle way of saying “I’m not interested in coaching that groupthinking organizational tire fire 80 km from my farm.”

Is there a link to the whole interview?
