15,000 people bothered responding. 7,500 were people that were already enjoying their after work wine or beer, and figured "f-yeah", and the other 7,500 were the Helen Lovejoys. In other words, 99% of Calgary didn't bother responding because it's so idiotic that liquor is restricted to begin with. Also, this relaxation has the stipulation that you must be at a picnic table and also eating. Um, ok? So still no beer on the bench for beer league softball? Ok, we'll continue to pour them in travel mugs or use cozies to conceal.
It's already getting consumed in parks everywhere, just like weed was getting smoked everywhere prior to legalization. Thanks for parenting adults, though.

I don’t think that is an accurate reflection of opinion to say 99% don’t care.
Even bad sampling doesn’t work like that.

I didn't say that 99% don't care. I said that 99% didn't bother responding.

It is completely absurd.
This council is as effective as a wet kleenex, and it all starts at the top.

You stated the reason they didn’t repsond. This is not something that can be inferred from the data collected.
My interpretation of what you were saying is that 50% being Helen love joys is wrong And that the other 99% also think the law is stupid . This is not the case becuase even bad sampling doesn’t work like that. If you intended something else to be inferred then a little more clarity would be appreciated. I’d bet that at least 30% would be Helen Love joys in a properly conducted poll.
Not sure why you felt the need for the jab at the end.

And that reason that I stated was not "that they don't care". So why are you putting words in my mouth?

I didn’t intend to put words in your mouth. In fact I was tying to give you the benefit of the doubt that there was more than one option for the reason that 99% of people didn’t respond to that survey.
You are wrong that 99% of people did not respond because they think the law is stupid.
Next time should I interpret your post literally and say that Math is hard?

Ok, FFS. I'll play this stupid internet game where you take my post, decide to dissect it, and question one little bit of it, instead of gleaning the f-ing meaning of the whole post.
What I meant to say was that most people that actually drink in parks, already do it. And they also know that the laws are stupid. So because of the fact taht they're already getting away with it, they didn't bother to respond to the poll, because why bother. The council in Calgary is idiotic when it comes to things like this, and hoping to change it is a waste of time. Thus, the only people that responded were Helen Lovejoys, and people that were already having their after work drink, with a bit of time to waste.
JTFC. WAs that clear enough for you, Rainman? Need more detail? Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

No, you now have made it even muddier.
So you have in the City of Calgary
1% Helen Lovejoys
99% people who already drink in parks but didn’t bother to respond
And a group that did respond that was greater in number than the Helen Lovejoys but aren’t in the 99% or 1%
But to attempt to respond to what I believe your original argument. I believe you are saying that a very large majority (90% plus) of Calgarians are in favour of being allowed to drink in parks (maybe in public in general but I don’t want to put words in your mouth).
And if that is not your position then obviously my reading comprehension is not sufficient.
My response to that argument is as follows:
I don’t think that is an accurate reflection of opinion to say 90% plus are in favour of public drinking.
Even bad sampling doesn’t work like that.
I’m seriously not trying to be intentionally obtuse here. I disagree that public drinking has the widespread support you appear to be suggesting. You are significantly under estimating the Helen Lovejoy population.

Seems most likely that 99% didn’t respond because they weren’t even aware of the public engagement or even the pilot project all together.

There was some kind of a vote? Maybe 99% didn’t hear about this.

Just a survey for them to gauge what the public thinks. It's in the first post of this thread and was all over the internet for a week or so

Oh that one. I thought there was something recently. That’s hard to believe only 15000 bothered to do the survey.

With 15,000 only responding, it could be that majority of people don't care. This is one of those "this should already be happening" already kind of bylaws. The fact it's being delayed shows how difficult it is for us to get with the times on some subjects.
