Is this team much different than we were 24 hours ago as far as needs to? Nope. In the exact same spot, and arguably a worse spot for scoring. Did Treliving address the biggest need on this team, which he identified over a year ago? Nope. And he used up the best assets available to him to make a deal that has essentially shuffled deck chairs. We are still looking like a team missing a proven scorer on the wing, but the best assets to use to attract that player are gone.
Spin it anyway you like, but this team is still in the exact same situation as they were a year ago. They are going to struggle to score goals and now likely don’t have the assets to acquire the needed player without poking a whole elsewhere.
I'm assuming that Brad is confident he will be making a free agent signing to fill the talent gap on the first line. This trade certainly doesn't address the issue any better than Ferland on the #1 line. If Lindholm is on the top line it is just a stop-gap measure like we have previously seen.

I believe that Lindholm will outperform Ferland in the #1 RW situation. I think Hanifin is a minor downgrade on Dougie but will eventually become the better all around player. Like I said, if you are tabulating goals from previous seasons, adding them up in a spreadsheet, and seeing if those numbers are green or red, I grant you, this trade is a loss. Let's see how these 2 recent top 5 picks do before we call for Treliving's head. It may turn out that your analysis is incomplete.

A few days ago, Hamilton was the league's "top scoring" defenseman, that many wouldn't trade 1-for-1 with Subban (are you freaking kidding me?)
Now he's an overrated Bouwmeester who takes bad penalties, is nothing without Giordano, oh and by the way truly is an uppity loner (really? I thought everyone loved the banana phone)
Revisionist history is amazing
I think it’s a bit of both.
He has always divided the fan base - a couple of days ago the Hamilton supports were louder and more vocal on here.
But now post trade the Hamilton supporters are the ones angry about it and the ones who disliked him and thought he was soft are more vocal trying to justify the trade.
I would rather be honest in emotion to Trelivings face so he knows you know what Brad not all the STH fans believe in your leadership. Not all the fans think you are making smart trades. Not all the fans thought Gulutzan was a smart hire.
And going into a draft ANY year with no picks until the 4th and having to fire an idiot coach is any GMs grand plan.
Nothing wrong with that, but there's more mature ways to do it than to talk down to the guy. Could have shared your opinions and had an adult conversation but you said you didn't even let him reply.
I'm not 100% disagreeing with your opinions, just the way you claim you acted.

Most of us grown ups who make our way in the world have come to learn how to be directly and respectfully critical of others in face-to-face exchanges. We are capable of expressing our differences of opinion clearly and cogently without resorting to infantile disparagement. It is baffling that these are skills you have not managed to develop. You seriously need to grow up.

You do realize that there is a massive chasm between being honest and being a prick, right?
My wife always wants me to be honest with her, but that doesn't mean I get to treat her like garbage. If we're having a disagreement, I don't get to say "you're an idiot, you bitch". No, instead I say, "you're saying and doing things that are not appropriate. You need to rethink your behavior."
Do you see how one might let us continue having a conversation and the other one would get me kicked out of the house? You're lucky Treliving didn't have security escort you out. No excuse for poor decorum, no matter how mad you are.
Oh, and it's just a game. Maybe you don't need to be so angry about professional hockey. Just a suggestion.

You may not like him but grow the eff up and stop with the childish remarks that were intended to get a response. You can state your disapproval in a civil and respectful manner.

I can tell you right now that I think your posts are laughably ####ing awful, and that your apparent personality and conversational tactics are somehow even worse. Would it not be significantly ruder of me if I went out of my way to tell you that in person? I think it would be.

Revisionist history, or a diverse selection of fans posting on this forum with a lot of varied opinions on one player?

I, unlike others, am not arguing that we didn't get good players in return. But as it stands now, I don't think Brad got VALUE in return. At the present time, we gave up the best player in the trade. At the very least should've been a conditional pick in return, in case Fox signs with Carolina.
I feel last three draft day trades have something in common, he gave up a lot to beat out the perceived competition. Considering he's always tight-lipped, maybe Carolina released the details to the media to drive up the price.

Elias Lindholm is a 23-year-old top-six forward. He is not by any measure a “stop-gap.”

Yeah I’d say it’s more like selective reading based on personal bias. I especially don’t understand the opinion since it would appear to me that the majority of CP is not in favour of this trade and thinks that the flames gave up too much. How is that possible if Hamilton all of a sudden is a bum?

I agree there was definately a more mature way to speak to him. I was really angry about this past season. Angry also at the same people sitting with my wife and I that were equally bitching about the coaching and not looking forward to any significant help at the draft but yet when they meet the man responsible. Oh can I get a selfie???
My wife wasn't happy that I was aggressive with my tone and posture with Treliving but not what so much with what I said.
It was how I said it that ticked her off and I get that.

Is this a therapy session now? Is Curtis Glencross here?

I really like Hamilton and rated him highly as a defenceman and I love this trade. I think there’s a false notion hear that everyone either fits into the hate Hamilton he’s a soft uppity loaner and is glad he’s gone or they loved Hamilton and hate the trade. I think it’s far more complex than that.
