Hope this means that Bennetts deal is for more than 2 years.
Ferland, Tkachuk, and Bennett all ending at the same time is kind of scary.

Its a fair deal.
Good for Ferland.
I wonder how many fans here would have liked to see a 5 year deal at 2 or 2.5?
Those carry risk but can really keep the cap down long term. If Ferland is going to be seeing substansial time on the first line his ask will be way up in two years.
Poile is always pulling it off in Nashville. Ie Jarnkrok, Ellis, Josi.

I also noticed the Flames now have a commercial sponsor for their transaction tweets.

I don't think either party would have been okay with that. From the team's point of view he's not consistent enough right now to warrant a five year commitment and from his point of view if he improves his play over the next two seasons he would be stuck making only $2 million in his prime. This is a good outcome for both parties.

Market value? Just head on down to the Market and get a Ferland? Why don't I strap on my Ferland helmet and squeeze down into a Ferland cannon and fire off into Ferland land, where Ferlands grow on Ferlandobbies?!
There is no Ferland market for there is only one Ferland.

With only one Ferland at the Ferland market, whatever the signing amount was is by definition market value.

So not only does Ferland have a contract keeping him in the Stampede City, he's returning to a team that has significantly bulked up its roster for next season.
"Super excited," said Ferland. "It's something we've been working on for the last little while and I think it's going to be exciting times coming up in Calgary and I'm very happy to stay here.
"I have a lot of great friends here, great teammates and my family is here - my daughter was born here. I love this city, I love the fans and I love it in Calgary."
When asked about all his new faces wearing the Flaming C, he had praise for Treliving and great optimism for the coming campaign.
"Tre has done a great job bringing in really good players and I'm really looking forward to this year," said Ferland. "I think we got a chance to do something special. We have a great group of guys in that dressing room and I'm excited to see how it unfolds."
|
Quote:
"It's unbelievable the character we have in our dressing room," said Ferland. "Gio (captain Mark Giordano) is a great leader and a great person. You got other guys like (Matt) Stajan who has really shown us the ropes. We definitely do have a lot of fun coming to the rink with the group we have."

I expect they are referring to what an arbitration hearing would look at. Ferland has 48 points in 173 NHL games, coming off a 25 point season.
I expect that close to value, based on the numbers.

That Ferland - Stajan - Jones line was so awesome in the 2015 run, so glad to see a key component of that line back.
