Gillies has all the makings of an NHL-level goaltender who will be a superb addition to the Calgary Flames down the road. The looming question isn’t if he’ll make it to the NHL, but when.

Jon Gillies replied with 'no comment' when I asked if he'd made up his mind on returning to return to PC in fall or signing with Calgary

With Ramo and Ortio likely in the NHL next year.
There's nothing behind as Roy (RFA) might not be brought back. I can see Gillies being signed and playing a lot in Abby. Not a bad move, Gibson is 20 years old and playing in the AHL. All for it, sign the man.

yup, with the trades of Berra and Brossoit, along with the likely end to MacDonald as a Flame, there is plenty of room for Gillies to join the organization and have his development be handled properly

I think he could use another year in college after this shaky season but I'd guess he's hoping that the Flames offer him a contract.

Regarding G Jon Gillies (bounced today by Union). Burke said were going to get to the end of the year and see what he wanted to do.
Sounds like the ball is in Gillies court
edit:
also looks like Providence will have 4 goalies if Gillies stays another season:
Brendan Leahy and Nicke Ellis who are already with the team as freshman and Hayden Hawkey who has committed to providence next year (perhaps Leaman preparing for Gillies leaving)

I don't see how this year really plays into it that much.
The question is: what his best for him going forward?
And I believe the answer to that is going pro and getting pro coaching and conditioning.
He is physically ready.

I only watched the 1st period today and he was the only reason PC wasn't down by 60 goals.

@MarkDivver: . @CoachLeaman said he doesn't know which way @JGillies32 will go. 'Whatever happens, the program moves on . . . I like our team either way'

I think you've touched on it but what players/goalies do the Friars have coming next season?
I've tried looking for the Jankowski thread without much luck. I only know of that kid from the Fort McMurray Barons and he's nothing to write home about.

I don't know the answer, but I recently read something that said they have 3 young goalies and it might actually help if he goes pro

G HAWKEY, Hayden
D DAY, Logan
RW CROMWELL, Alex
D WALMAN, Jake

NHL: Ramo/Ortio
AHL: Gillies/Whoever

One thing to note about Ortio is that he is not eligible for waivers until the end of next season or until he plays 63 more NHL games (whichever happens first).
So the Flames can move Ortio back and forth from the AHL next season without having to worry about waivers.

I think it would be:
NHL: Ramo / FA
AHL: Ortio / Gillies
(if Gillies were to take the jump)
