After todays win the hype trains gonna be in full effect. The Oilers ministry of Propoganda (Stauffer and Spector) are gonna be hyping them up full spin obnoxiously and act like they are suddenly cup contenders and that they dont have the worst depth in the league. The only way these guys can win is if goalies steal them games.

Hitchcock is the right choice for a terrible hockey team with 1 star.

I actually see Edmonton playing a much more structured game defensively. They aren't giving up much. Hitchcock seems to be the cure to what ailed that team...
With that being said, anyone's guess as to how long it lasts. I have always maintained that the coach is the single most important piece of the puzzle to a team. Hitchcock was mediocre in the last few seasons with much deeper and much more talented rosters. I definitely wouldn't put money on Edmonton earning a playoff spot this year, that's for sure. Will be interesting to see how they do when the schedule gets a bit tougher.

My thoughts from the end of November before their run. Still stand by it.
Trust me, this wont last. As soon as Koskinen cools off a bit this team is screwed.

Sure hope you're right. I hate seeing any success for that team.

My 6 year old son was looking at the schedule prior to Sunday nights game said, "Who are the Flames playing?" My response was "You know the other team".
My son took a moment and said, "The Edmonton...(looking back at their logo) Eggdrops?"
True story...

This is great! Hitchcock was the answer, the Oilers are amazing! Fire no one! Change nothing!
That team as is has everything they need to win it all!

A team with PTOs on its top 6 and waiver wire nhl tweeners filling out the bottom 6, and a blue line that's as offensively challenged as that one is only going to get so far from a new playing style. Teams are probably not prepared for the sudden change but soon enough the division and western teams will have a new book on the oilers who are no deeper now than they were two weeks ago.

The Oilers have been streaky. They went on a run with McLellan only to follow it with an extended losing streak. The bubble will burst but Hitchcock will keep them competitive enough where they likely miss the playoffs but are not a factor in the draft lottery which is really the best case scenario as the reality is with their depth they could badly use another top 5 pick.

Looks like their thin blue line gets thinner with Klefbom our for “weeks” with a hand injury. The guy has a hard time staying healthy.

Watched a bit of third period last night. Oilers 6th goal was exactly the same as flames disallowed goal against the Oil on Sunday, except Draisatl actually made more contact on Avs goalie.
Someone should make a video comparing the 2 and tweet it to Staples.

Would be great to see a comparison to really judge for ourselves. Forget Staples, tweet it to the league if indeed we got snuffed on virtually the same situation.
I feel like we need a third party of some kind of monitor these calls for consistency. Someone that overrule the overruling..
course that'll never happen.

One more win and the Oilers will be in second place in the division .
Fortunately they don't have a hope in hell of beating Winnipeg on the road.

I'm glad they've moved up in the standings. Reduces their chances of dropping down low enough to quality for the first overall pick.

I thought the Flames goal could have gone either way because I don't think Peluso even touched Koskinen. Just sort of stood in his way (in the blue paint though).
Draisatl skated through the blue paint and made blatant contact with goalie, completely interfering with his ability to make save. This to me is 100% of the time "No Goal"

No. It really wasn't, and no, he did not.
Peluso was right over Koskinen's left pad when the puck went in, and Koskinen was impeded from extending his leg all the way. Draisaitl bumped Grubauer on the leg right before the goal, but it was clearly less egregious than the one the Flames had called back on Sunday.
I think both goals could have been recalled, but it is easy to see why the respective calls were made.
But on that note...
No. Not even favourable goal-calls and officiating can save the Edmonton Oilers.
Nothing can.
Nothing.

Not me. (Other than draft day I guess) I want them to suffer misery every day of the year.
