Default The world has gone to crap and there's little we can do to fix it.

Invasions with nuclear threats, assassinations, conspiracy's, crazy gun violence and incredible disparity between the rich and middle class/poor the world is a crap show.

Not too long ago the difference between the right and the left was a vote, now it's sometimes life and death.

Can it be fixed?

I fear the worst

You forgot climate change. I am trying to convince my kid to take Post-Apocalypse Wasteland Scavenger 101 when she goes to college.

Take a break from social media and partake in some enjoyable hobbies. I don’t mean to say, take some ostrich approach to problems, but don’t get hung up on negativity.

...But actually take as much of an ostrich approach as you possibly can.

Yes, I would say get off line and enjoy the sunshine. Go to Stampede breakfast tomorrow. We just got out of a pandemic!

We are still in the most peaceful period. We're not living during WWI or WWII.

Think of all the stockpiling and pent up rage though. We are due.

Part of me wants to see just how bad things can get. Morbid curiosity I guess.

Vault 101 is probably safer. Crossing fingers for a good vault without the social experiments.

More people having kids would be a start - then their parents might pull their heads out of their asses and try to make the world a little better in the here and now, and the kids might actually grow up and make it better still.

The birth rate has declined by a 3rd since 1980 - down from 14.8/1000 to 10.1 last year, and it’s projecting to fall even lower.

People can whine about taxes and war and climate change all they want, but nothing submarines a modern economy like a low birth rate.

Hahaha, I suspect in a short time we will wish we could have war times like WWI or II, at least in those times we were fighting for something with a positive outcome for peace, the next one will be about preserving the human species.

The world has quite literally been one bad decision plus 45 minutes away from ending for 60 years.

Until it stops spinning, we have to act as though it intends to spin on.

It's just the world coming to terms that civilization really did peak in the 90s.

Global life expectancy is higher than ever in history, and the number (percentage?) of people living in abject poverty is as low as it's ever been. Both of these things consistently happening will lower infant mortality rates and slow population growth in turn. That then should slow down the burden on natural resources and hopefully slow climate change rates enough to where technology and innovation can catch up.

It's not all bad news.

The polar ice caps were supposed to melt 10 years ago, so this is all gravy time. Live it up, have some kids, eviscerate a dog, the worlds a beautiful place.

To paraphase a quote "somewhere out there, some fool is peacefully meditating next to a waterfall, completely unaware of terrified he should be of everything." Participation in the fear-parade is a choice, dont surrender your mind to the fear mongers.

First step is to stop pretending right and left is anything more than a divisive political tactic. Things become a lot clearer after that and that in itself will probably help you rest a little easier.

When I go on vacation, I intentionally avoid any news in order to relax. I literally just use my phone for Google maps. When I come back I try to extend that attitude for as long as I can but inevitably go back to reading daily news within a week or so, and then feelings of stress and helplessness invade again.

It's paying attention to the news and other bull#### social media nonsense that has us on edge. Our actual everyday lives are perfectly fine (with the possible exception of rising prices) but we choose to let outside interference occur. Stuff we literally have no control over and can't do a thing to change. I'm as guilty of this as anybody. I'm not necessarily advocating the head in the sand approach, but well ignorance is bliss isn't it?

I know so many people in this mindset right now. We need to step back and remember what brought us joy. We have so little control over global events, it can get extremely frustrating. I’m going to my families July birthdays party today, so the whole world can #### off for an evening. I mean it’s not the most helpful advice, but everyone needs to just step back and enjoy the small things now and then if they can.

Written by a man who fought in the Battle of the Somme.

Two of the most famous books of the 20th century were written by veterans of World War 1 - the Lord of the Rings, and Mein Kampf.

Who do we think was right?

More importantly, whose world do we want to live in?
