nope, took the bus today. No way the Nose Creek path was going to be clear and the roads are still too sketchy.

Bow river pathway was cleared by the Peace Bridge, 7th st cycle track clear. Confederation park, not so much. A bit like biking through sand, but not horrible. Side streets were all great, packed firm snow, easy to ride for the most part. The path down the bluff at 7th st was something else! Rutted from footsteps, with fresh. It was a wild ride!

Still better than the bus.

Wow, Nose Creek path almost fully bare and dry for most of it from the Zoo up to Fox Hollow crossing, same goes for the Fox Hollow hill and the bridge over Deerfoot. Just the old ice patches every now and then still on it, easily avoided.

Ya, it was a great ride in. I'm afraid what will happen during the melt though. So much ice underneath on the roads, and all the pathways have large mounds of snow that will melt into ice snakes. Will enjoy it while it is nice though!

The maintenance crew for Queens Park Cemetery is different form the rest of the paths(I assume) and goddamn, I just want to say kudos to them. Not always out there day 1 (or 2 or 3) but when they do it it is cleaned to the bone, even with compacted footprints. You could roller skate in that section. So well done crew.

I was biking home last night and another cyclist entered a traffic circle in front of me. I followed behind her for the next two blocks and we both stopped at an intersection while waiting for the crossing lights to turn red. There was also an SUV right beside us on our left. When the crossing traffic stopped the three of us (two bikes and one driver) all started to go. The intersection is a little weird because although we are continuing on the same road, it is crooked. See map here: https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.25680...2!8i6656?dcr=0. You're never totally sure if the track, both in your direction or opposing is going straight or turning. Anyways, the SUV is making sure the opposing cyclists can go straight, so it's going a little slow. The two of us on bikes are making sure the SUV doesn't hit us. Everyone is correctly proceeding through the intersection.

Then a cyclist who decides he can't wait to get through is trying to pass through the intersection. With all the traffic he doesn't get there but is still trying to get between the SUV and two bikes. I hold my ground, and angle a bit over so I don't go into a parked car. I'm not that concerned, and I'm in no hurry as I'm turning right on the next block. He looks over and we have this conversation:

Him: You're in a tight spot there.
Me: I know. You've really boxed me in.
Him: You shouldn't be passing on the right. It's dangerous.
Me: I'm not. I'm following behind that cyclist, as I've been for the last two blocks. You're the one that is trying to pass, but you're not fast enough. You're also trying to pass an SUV on the right, and on the turn.
Him: No, you're trying to pass me.
Me: Wasn't I in front of you?
Him: Yeah
Me: Wouldn't that mean you are trying to pass me?
Him: Idiot

At this point I turn off onto my route. I just don't understand people sometimes. I'm not sure how I am trying to pass someone, if I'm already in front of them.

People are idiots. I had a similar thing happen here:

https://goo.gl/maps/tsBi45k3E742

I was stopped, waiting for the light. He was behind me. Light goes green, I go. He starts to come up the inside on me. I realize what is going on, and I don't want to get pushed into traffic so I step on it a bit, knowing he is going straight for the light pole if he keeps the stupidity up as the bike lane is fairly narrow on the other side of the intersection. He had to slam on the brakes before the sidewalk. I don't think he caught back up to me. So dumb. Just go around the right if you want to pass.

Thanks again to bossy22 for posting the Cranked clearance sale. They had plenty of other sales as well. I picked up the Defy, pedals, shoes, shorts, and a trainer tire and skewer for $2100! The regular retail on the bike alone is 2400.

I'm extremely excited to get this thing out and seriously up my KMs this season.

NSFW!

What pedals did you go with? 105 SPD? I have the same bike, I put 2,000km on it in 4 or 5 months last year, you will not be disappointed, it is such a fun ride.

Also need to pick up a pair of goggles! Timely suggestions!
Since you're on flats, you probably don't want or need cleated boots, but I'm trying the Shimano MW7s this year. Paired with gore-tex socks, they're pretty warm down to -20 for an hour or so.

Any colder (or longer), I've got some North Face boots that are great.

Ya I went with the 105 SPDs. They were a good price and the staff there recommended them. The were really helpful with choosing everything actually. I'll definitely shop there again.
