I love how the Oiler fanbase is flooding to Staples defense. Whiners defending whiners.

Small puck-moving D-Men are typically good to excellent skaters. Fox isn't. If he does become an impact NHLer, he'll be breaking the mould.

For the record, here is the Athletic's version (from Pronman), published yesterday.

https://theathletic.com/761041/2019/...spect-ranking/

If you're not a subscriber, Adam Fox is 44th, which makes more sense to me. However, Pettersen is the only Flames prospect on the list, at 52 (I am assuming he's considered players like Dube, Valimaki et al to have graduated).

The top ten are

1. Q Hughes
2. M Necas
3. O Tippett
4. F Zadina
5. B Hayton
6. J Kyrou
7. G Denisenko
8. R Kupari
9. C Glass
10. C Makar

I like Pronman's rankings better than most, simply because while he has his biases and occasionally makes mistakes, he acknowledges them and tries to figure out what he did so that he can improve in his rankings next time (see his "why I got these prospects wrong" article a couple months ago).

Dan Boyle is the last one that I can remember, with close to the same skill set. The game is a lot faster now.

My goodness it's like a bottomless pit of inferiority complex up north.

90% of the responses to Button's tweet are from Oiler fans whining.

Everyone is out to get them. The NHL, the refs, Craig Button, etc. It's so pathetic that many of them just can't accept that the misfortunes of their team have everything to do with poor ownership and management. If the NHL was really out to get them they would have rigged the McDavid lottery to ensure the Oilers don't win and they certainly wouldn't be giving the Oilers the softest schedule in the league 2 out of the last 3 seasons.

I like that Pronman acknowledges his mistakes. But I think his picks are the worst - he has a very particular player type that he favours (small and shifty), and he can't seem to see beyond that. Quinton Hughes at #1 is a perfect example of that.

How Glass and Makar are not higher is baffling.

'The Oilers' are a significant part of being an Edmontonian. It is part of their makeup. They have a very closed media and mindset around their city and their team (exactly like Saskatchewan and the Riders). And with a perpetual feeding of homerish viewpoints and circle-jerking, it is not surprising that they have an inflated view of their champions. So whenever an external opinion comes along, it typically doesn't jive with the 'local' view, and it leaves them all miffed.

"Why does no one else see how awesome we are?"

"Has to be bias against us"

"Understandable - I mean, look how many cups we have"

What # is Kravtsov on this list?

Pretty cool that Emilio Pettersen is on the list. Leading Denver in scoring last I checked

The irony of oiler fans discrediting Button as a member of the hockey media in replies to a Staples Twitter comment.

Also, they fail to appreciate the subjectivity of these lists.

'what does he, a former NHL director of scouting, NHL GM and TSN head of scouting, know about NHL prospects? Typical flames and leafs bias.'
