Flames Training Camp Day 8 Notes

Looks like Group 1 goes to Edmonton tomorrow. Expect cuts after tomorrows game.

Good news is Ritchie, Pospisil, and Pettersen have been moved from Group 3 where they were day to day with injury. Might mean they are good to go.

Ritchie to Group 2 and Posipisil and Pettersen to Group 1.

That lineup looks like it must be just scrapping by on the minimum veterans games played threshold. Would be the game to watch to see how bubble players do against a more veteran lineup in Edmonton.

So much whining by Oilers fans about us icing mostly NHLers last night. I would love for them to do the same and our Group 1 still beat them

Has Ilya Solovyov passed Valimaki and McKay on the depth chart? He played with the vets yesterday and is staying behind with the vets today.

If true, that is surprising, as he was ranked 26th on the CP rankings. I hardly know his name.

I hope Marcinew suddenly flies in like a screaming eagle blasting AK-47s from each wing and bics a spot out of nowhere from one of our top-line players. I can feel it.

I view that more as he's already been placed in the AHL.

I would the opposite..him and Poirier are guaranteed a spot with the Wranglers, but are also not going to play the Oil. Hence they fill spots in group 2 to maintain a full practice.

Family always comes first but it's really too bad that Kylington is likely to miss camp. He is far from an established vet and really benefits/needs a good training camp to springboard his season.

All those bubble dmen should be chomping at the bit.

Early preseason games have traditionally been that way .. Teams give prospects reps on the road and vets reps at home so as to not make the nhl regulars travel more than they need to.

Edm will do exactly as we did and ice vets tomorrow and it won't be a big deal. Love to see vladar close the door on them.

I think it is also a courtesy thing. Every team wants to be able to evaluate their prospects against mostly NHLers. It kind of gives them another test control in the evaluation. It makes sense in these scenarios that the home team is the one who dresses their better players so that the prospects aren't embarrassed at home and the home town fans typically get a freebie win.

That is kind of what I always assumed anyway. Maybe I give teams too much credit for the level of cooperation.

That's a pretty decent lineup considering it is really one Flames NHL roster skater on it.

Wranglers will have a great team. Built like the big team - great goalie, deep blueline, Ruzicka, Schwindt, Zary and Jones down the middle

A number of years ago, I was up in Edmonton for work and caught a pre-season BOA. The Flames lost, for similar reasons.

The next day I went for dinner with my Grandma, who was a MASSIVE Oilers fan. She knew I went to the game, so asked me "so, what did you think of the game last night?"

So I said "it was good...the Flames lost, but it was because they were playing their rookies and the Oilers were playing their veterans"

Without missing a beat, she goes "you know, I heard that, and I thought "calf is going to have an excuse all lined up""

It should be a pretty deep Wranglers team this year. It will be really good Mohave the farm team in Calgary.

BANNER STARVED
How starved for banners are the Calgary Flames? They actually hung one for finishing with the most points in the Pacific Division during the regular season. They are calling themselves 2021-22 Pacific Division Champions, even though they were eliminated in the second round.
That's rich considering you have a banner for most Garth Brooks concerts hanging in your rink.

Loved the little crack at the end about banners and the Flames being hard up for them. Anyone want to remind him of the Garth Brooks banner the Oilers have hanging from the rafters of their urinal?
