The team seems primed to trade a d for a r/w

Stone would be a great addition to most NHL teams bottom pairings, I hope we can give him a good contract to keep him playing even if it's AHL only, sure seems like his priority is staying in Calgary

Tbh it wouldn’t be the Flames without a last minute Michael Stone signing

I like Micheal Stone. Excellent serviceable d man who can fill in when needed.

Total speculation on my part, but I think there might be more to the Michael Stone situation. I really do think he is too good to not be getting more offers around the league.

Back in 2018, he was diagnosed with a blood clot and was sidelined for a long time because of it. I know sometimes conditions that cause blood clots can be chronic and dangerous, especially if you play a sport. I can't help but wonder if this is the reason he is always a last minute signing and is only ever expected to play a small handful of actual games.

Naw. I'd love to see Stone set an unbeatable record for most times signed by one team.

Does he already have this record?

Stone's wife is from Calgary and he moved back here as soon as he could. I think even if he gets other offers he has a priority of living here and the other offers would have to be significantly better.

And while we appreciate him,, it's not like he is some unique in demand talent. He's a 7D and lots of teams have them around anyway.

Stone might be the first player to have played for the Hitmen, the Flames, and the Wranglers.

Fun fact: The Flames relocated their AHL team to Calgary to accommodate Michael Stone contract demands.

Given the commitment (and performance) he's given to this organization, why don't they just offer him a contract? It's kind of insulting to give him a PTO given the loyalty he's shown.

The ironic thing about him being on a try-out is that he's already made the team. The try-out actually applies to Valimaki and Mackey. If either or both of them impress, Stone maybe gets released. If neither show much, Stone will be there, the reliable backup plan.

I would have given him a league minimum contract right out of the gate, TBH.

We joke, but there is no proof this isn't true.

A decision which, in my personal opinion, is entirely worth it.

Just an honest, hard-working player that is really well liked in the organization. A perfect trustworthy defenceman for Darryl.
