Death, Taxes and a Michael stone signing/PTO offer before camp.

The dance with contracts is hilarious. Watch Stone sign a big AHL deal at the end of camp and not approach an NHL deal until either the last possible date or when the Flames run into injury trouble during the season.

Makes sense. Was surprised to not see this yet. Did well last season, and if we are planning to move a defenseman due to our depth, he is a perfect #7/8.

I wonder why a PTO instead of just signing him to the league minimum

Love what he brings, and love that he puts his family first and just wants to play in Calgary. I have no doubt he'll be signed again, and I more than welcome that idea.

Based on last year's play (and I understand that he is 32 now), I would put him 7th on teh depth chart, ahead of Valimaki and Mackey

No point in locking him in before they see how everyone else looks at camp. If someone else impresses enough they may not need him (or he signs to an AHL deal instead if he's interested)

Ruzicka isn't signed yet. This gives a little bit of breathing room with the cap until then.

Just sign him to an actual contract. Perfect 7th defenseman.

Because it is possible that one of the young guys will pass him and earn that #7 spot on the roster. And if so, they would probably rather release him and let him be a free agent, than send him to the A

Flexibility, I suppose. If they trade one of their tweener defencemen, or lose one on waivers, they'll go ahead and sign Stone. Meanwhile they can figure out Ruzicka's contract and see what else they might be adding.

Hope they offer Stone a multi-year 2-way deal for league minimum. He'd probably take it and in case the minimum goes up, the team can benefit too.

Remember that game where Mario scored 5 different types of goals (ES, PP, PK, empty net s and penalty shot)?

Feels like Tre is trying the same thing with Stone, but with different contract related status
- traded for with retained salary
- multi year with NTC
- pay him via buyout
- one year league min
- PTO

I’d give him an 8x$1M.

Max term is one of the only contractual treatments missing

I'm rooting for the guy to grab a top 6 spot. He was absolutely amazing for us last year.
