Remember his non-stop sulking?

Remember his absolutely abysmal efforts in our Colorado playoff series?

What a bum.

I love Rasmus' answer to this question about going over and hugging James Neal.

EDIT: i suck at embedding but its a safe link to interview with Leslie.

For me it's the Rasmus eye roll when asked about him after he left.

Also liked another part of that interview when Mike Commodore was in the chat and said that Neal misses Calgary. Ras' reaction was hilarious.

I have watched this team since the 80's, and I never once saw a worse player on this team who literally didn't contribute anything positive at all - and that includes Anders Ericksson and others who are 'notorious' on these boards for being terrible players.

Peters put Neal with Gaudreau and Monahan automatically after every penalty kill (since Lindholm is on the PK). What did that line generate? IIRC, zero points. That's fricken amazing. What a superstar.

Does nothing but hurt the Flames all season, then in the middle of the playoffs, he has a meltdown in practice about his lack of playing time in full view of his teammates with Peters. What happens the very next game? Neal has the 'controller disconnected' moment on the game winning gave 4 goals for Colorado, when they go up 3-1 in the series.

I always wondered how the team felt about him given the above - especially that argument with Peters. I guess now I know. No wonder Tkachuk instigated that fight with Neal. Good on Tkachuk there.

The real heal indeed.

Why is he so unliked in the dressing room? Is he aloof? Self centered? Mean spirited? I can’t quite figure it out. Commodore is a fan for some reason.

Fans always turn on bit players in my experience ... lots of anger to the 6/7 defenseman or fourth line forwards. They like backup goalies though.

But I wonder team history who is the most useless player / $ in team history.

Neal may just take it.

Brouwer was bad. Raymond? Bollig? Lucic now I guess given the value.

Some of the ones that looked bad didn't turn out bad at all like Engellend.

I think it's Neal.

Glad they found a way out of it, took on a fan favourite and then got to watch the guy sewer and stick a rival with a buyout penalty.

Comeau sticks in my mind as a player I was done with quickly, but I don’t recall what kind of line he was on and how much ice time he had.

Lol.... They think they won the trade because (according to the Oilers fans I have argued with) that was the plan all along, to buyout the Lucic contract that was buyout proof, so trading for a player with a non-buyout proof contract, and buying it out, was the goal of the trade. For Calgary, buying out a contract is NOT the goal when you sign it (or trade for it)... buyout is not an option, and if you have to, it's because a mistake was made and we should avoid this and not celebrate the buyout in any way... for Edmonton, buyouts are used all the time, they are considered a risk you use to try and find that "hot deal" or "break out" player. The fanbase in Edmonton is delusional, they'll justify anything as better that they have ... banner up for the most buyout in the league.

I think Ladislav Smid takes it. The way I see it is that Neal only got paid for the one year by Calgary, because they traded him. Smid had 3 seasons x $3.5M for a total of 109GP, 1G, 7P, -23 because of injuries. I get that injuries really derailed his career, but I didn't like the fact we traded for him in the first place. Ex Oilers rarely work out for the Flames.

I wouldn't say there was anything wrong with Smid. Flames acquired him as a defensive defencemen (he had plenty of 1 goal seasons already), and he stuck it to the Oilers with that goal he scored. Loved it. Smid competed hard even though there were legit questions about his injuries. I have nothing but respect for Smid, actually.

Yep, $ to useless, I don't think it's even close, Neal by a significant margin. And yeah Brouwer next.

$ to dissatisfaction, Turek -- until he renegotiated his contract.

Turek renegotiated for a smaller salary, but it also tacked on an extra year, so it wasn’t completely unselfish. He ended up leaving before the contract was even up though, which was the real favour.
