Never made sense then, doesn't make sense now how Cristall fell to #40 his draft year

Well, Spokane now has arguably the top line in all of the CHL with Van Olm, Catton and Cristall. They are tearing it up pretty much regularly since Cristall was traded there.

There is a precedent for CHL players graduating to the AHL early. Shane Wright was granted an exemption to play in the AHL as a 19 year old. I've been wondering if the Flames might try to do something like that with Parekh

I could be wrong but I think that precedent would require another pandemic

It had nothing to do with the pandemic. It was last season.

Last season?
That was Wright's 20 year old season as far as the CHL is concerned, which made him eligible for the AHL. Same as all 20 year olds if they are good enough to land a pro contract.
Next season Parekh will still be considered a 19 year old in the CHL and cannot go to the AHL until his junior season is completed.

No it wasn't. Wright was born in 2004, like Honzek. This season is the first time 2004 born CHL players are allowed to play in the AHL. Wright played there LAST YEAR. As a 19 year old.
If Wright was eligible to play in the AHL last year, under normal circumstances, Honzek (and Lipinski) would have been too.
Wright is two years older than Parekh and was able to play in the AHL three years earlier. One year older than Morin, played two years earlier. Same age as Honzek... you get the picture. He was granted an exemption.

Nhl has become very hyper focused on size again. Only a handful of players under 6' even get a drafted now. The ones that do seem to drop like Cristall and Misa

I think he gets a few games and then the flames have a hard choice as he’s likely going to get exposed on the defensive side.
It just doesn’t feel like the flames MO for development to let him go before he develops his defensive game. They seem to be teaching players to be defensively responsible first when they transition into the AHL and then let them open up when they figure out the defensive piece.
Parekh is special so maybe they work with him differently, especially if it means sending him back to the OHL… this is also where resigning Andersson remains important as he can help Parekh transition his game, and cover up on his errors.

They will invent a 2-1-2 formation with Parehk in the middle as a rover (not a centre) and let him do whatever he wants, while having 2 D to back him up.

Feb.2nd:
Misa gets no points, and was -1 in a 5-3 loss to Owen Sound (7/18 in faceoffs). He is 17th in scoring, and 14th in plus/minus, with 47gp/27g/34a/61pts,+26, 2 PIM.
Mews picks up 1a, and was -1 in a 9-3 loss to Brantford. He is tied for 15th-overall in scoring, and is 2nd in scoring by D, with 47gp/12g/50a/62pts,-9, 60 PIM. Mews has 12 points in 9 games with Sudbury, who are coincidentally (we hope) 3-7 in the last 10 games, and have dropped to 10th in the OHL.
Battaglia was named first star in a 4-2 win over Sarnia, with 1g, 2a, and +3. He is 8th in OHL scoring, with 47gp/30g/40a/70pts,+8, 22 PIM.
Parekh was second star in a 5-2 win over the Soo, with 1g, 1a, and +3. He is tied for 12th-overall in scoring, and is first overall in scoring by D by 5 points, with 42gp/24g/43a/67pts,+28, 61 PIM.
Hurtig gets no points, but was +1 in a 4-3 loss to Lethbridge. He is 14th-overall in plus/minus, with 40gp/3g/8a/11pts,+30, 25 PIM.
Laing gets 1g, was +1, and went 2/5 in faceoffs, in a 3-2 win over Moose Jaw. 45gp/14g/15a/29pts,+11, 31 PIM.
No points, -2, and 14/23 in faceoffs for Lipinski in a 5-2 loss to the Chiefs. 40gp/8g/31a/39pts,-2, 28 PIM.
Jamieson gets no points, but was +1 in a 5-4 OT win over Kamloops. He is tied for 11th-overall in plus/minus, with 50gp/8g/19a/27pts,+31, 44 PIM. No points in his last 7 games, and only 4 points in his last 15. D Landon Dupont has 50 points in 47 games.

So was Point , Cristall while not very fast (yet) he has Gaudreau like edges and uses that to be very creative and evasive to the point where defenceman trip over themselves.
He'll play in the NHL, his IQ and skills are too good not too, maybe as soon as next year. 2nd round theft IMO

Maybe Parekh should give the NCAA a twirl next year if he can’t play in the AHL.

Parekh signed an ELC. He cannot play in the NCAA (Mews, who hasn't signed an ELC, is still eligible).
It's the NHL or the OHL for Parekh.

I think Zayne's ready.
Another summer of training + camp(s)
He can easily slot in sheltered minutes + PP time next year.
