Icon31 Todd McLellan hired as LA Kings Head Coach

Didn't see it posted -- Todd McLellan now behind the bench in LA:

https://www.nhl.com/kings/news/todd-...gs/c-306812622

Quote:
The LA Kings have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract for Todd McLellan to serve as the club's new head coach, it was announced today by Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake.

McLellan becomes the 29th head coach in club history, and he comes with a wealth of experience as a head coach in the NHL, having already logged 11 seasons of head coaching experience in both Edmonton (three-plus seasons with the Oilers) and San Jose (seven seasons with the Sharks). In 2008, he won a Stanley Cup Championship while serving as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings.

I think he was overrated after the Sharks because of a good team, and underrated after the Oilers because of a no good team. I guess we'll see.

The HC carousel continues...

Solid hire. Can't really blame McLellan for the unsolvable situation in Edmonton...

Didn't he have another year on his Oilers contract? If so, Oilers save about $3 million.

The Atlantic has 3 perennial powerhouses; the Pacific doesn't...

I can understand why he would pick LA. He's got a taste of the California lifestyle and I imagine he's getting pretty good dough with 4 or more years of security. To me he's an average NHL head coach not as bad as his record in Edmonton but not as good based on his record with some stacked Sharks teams. Still an upgrade on Desjardins.

Imagine telling the kids you are leaving Edmonton to move to LA. Talk about living your best life....

He, and yes Chia, got a good year out of the roster they had. He wanted to trade more guys to rid the culture of losing, but Hall was the only one with value and even then it was tough to find a player that didn't have an NmC.

And after a couple seasons, the longer term problems created by Lowe's legacy caught up with the both of them for talent cap space, leadship and culture. Nevermind the fact that when they start losing the year after the playoffs, that same Lowe is sending down "suggestions" for the coach and GM, through his minions and approved by the owner.

He sounds like a good solid guy and decent coach, glad to be out of the nightmare and can really take the sad sack Kings only up.
