This is something I've always wondered about...

Yes, it's against the rules for a team official to contact another team's contracted player to discuss signing, etc.

But is it against the rules for Gio to call up his buddy Mark and ask him if he'd sign here? What about Mark's brother Michael? Can't Mike call him up and be like... bro, you need to play here man, this org is awesome, and then Mark to be like yeah I know man, I'd love to play there. Hell, I'd even take a cut to play there...

And then maybe Gio and Michael are standing in the hallway talking loudly about their phone calls with Michael's brother Mark... and maybe it just happens to be the hallway outside the GM's office, but it's just a couple buddies talking about one of their brothers...
