Come on. The clear run-away winners on TD every year are the Canadian networks.

When I think of Trade Deadline Day for The Flames, I remember two distinct ones that didn't work and broke chemistry for us:

Acquiring Jokinen (which the first few games looked amazing)
Stuart for Kobasew/Ference which I think had a big impact on the locker room for someone we knew who had 0 interest in re-signing here.

I'd like us to either stand pat or make a very minor depth-related acquisition.

Go all in and get as many offensive weapons as you can. We are 2nd in the league. Parity is at an all time high. Nothing is guaranteed in this league you never know when you're going to be in a position like this again.

The chances of meeting Tampa in the Finals are higher than they are for any other Eastern Conference team, but they are not "very high." It is extremely difficult for even the best teams to get to the Stanley Cup finals and it usually requires a lot of good fortune.

How much do you guys want to bet that next year Giordano repeats a Norris-worthy season, the roster is almost entirely healthy, we’ve got a point-per-game forward on an ELC, and are rolling into the playoffs as top seed?

Yes, the Flames window with this core will be open for a while, but there is a very realistic chance that this is the best shot this core will ever have.

So I say go all-in. I don’t care about the 30th-ish overall pick, or prospects who project to be good bottom 6 players.

Get a power forward, get a depth defenceman, and get a goalie. I’m glad Smith has strung together a few good games, but I have zero interest in relying on him even in a backup capacity, and getting a backup sounds to me like the best possible use for a throw-away draft pick.

Time to make hay while the sun shines.

Voted to stand pat, as the team is quite complete and deep. Guys like Brodie and Frolik are underappreciated by a vocal minority but are key to being able to roll out a complete roster. I don’t see how a guy like Stone fits cap wise with current salary structure plus Tkachuk, Bennett, goaltending contracts to be addressed, etc

I could see a move for a depth D and/or Zuccarello but would be fine if they stayed the course.

I'd be in 'all-in' territory with just a bit more confidence in our goaltending. Regardless of acquisition cost, there is no goalie even available that would put me there.

Relative to the NHL they are very high.

Tampa has a 100% chance of making the playoffs, a 100% chance of home ice all playoffs long and a 33.3% chance to win the Stanley cup according to sports club stats.

The odds makers have the Bolts +225-+325 odds to win the cup and the next highest is +700-+850.

Anything can happen yada yada, but the Bolts are one of the most dominate teams of recent history and the chances of them making the cup final is very high.

Why would you even pick that point to beleaguer?

While depth, defence and even goaltending has been encouraging, they need another weapon.

Can't afford to have the top six sputter like they have for 3 weeks when playoffs come. You'll be out before you know it.

Having another skilled guy that you can mix and match with for chemistry will only help them when they need the goals. You never know, it could be what gives you the edge in a potential second round matchup with San Jose.

Sometimes the small deals work great. Nilson, Neimenen and Simon were 2004 deadline deals.

This is my hope. Add a player or two for depth, and bulk up more in the summer.

Go all in on a guy like Stone. If not, depth. I’m not a big fan of giving up a lot of assets for a guy like Kevin Hayes.

Go. All. In

Role players with size and heart goes a long ways in the playoffs. These guys are needed when the offence gets turned down by tight defensive plays and the opposition goalie gets hot. Flames' 4th line has a lot of speed, but puny. Big bodies wears down on the opposition over time in any playoff series and it'll be even more evident as the series prolongs and deeper in the run.

Actually poker is a huge strategy game and not just about huge risks, if you play huge risks all the time you will be in Edmonton’s shoes in both hockey and poker

Trev made a 60/40 gamble with Carolina in the summer and it paid off

Now may be a time to stand as you would say in poker

We will still have contracts to solve in the summer and don’t sell the future for today

I have faith he will do what’s right and I have faith the coaches can win with this team weather it’s a high scoring slugfest or a defensive struggle

I think you need to go all in to get a player of Stones calibre. Rarely does a player this good and in their prime become available. Adding him to this team would make us extremely deep at all lines, and offensively elite. We will have to give up to get, but a player like Stone is worth it.

Tradeable players who hold positive value:

Bennett
Frolik
Brodie
Kylington

Players who hold negative value but might need to be traded to make a deal work

James Neal
Mike Smith

Any draft picks including up to two 1st rounders should be on the table.

I wouldn't trade Valimaki or Andersson.

Johnny and Monny are UFA in 3 years after this. Gio and Backlund will be that much older. Our best window is likely the next 4 years. Anything that sets us up strong to go all in for that period im for.
