I was distracted all game last night, but I thought I heard Ryan mention that.
From everywhere you listen, people are standing on soapboxes to shout their nominee this year and it's Gio by a landslide.
Very well earned, and quietly one of the best players in the league. Glad he's in the running for some well-earned recognition.
An undrafted player that still had the confidence to tell the team he was ready - and demonstrate it. All the way to captaining a freshly built team to one of the best seasons we've seen in a few decades.
What a great crew of Captains we've had.

Yeah, it's nice having recognition from writers, but even nicer (and rarer) from fellow players.
It used to happen with Steven Gerrard for Liverpool; you'd get Zidane, Xavi, Pirlo etc. all coming out and saying he's one of the best in the world. Of course, then loads of bids would come in for him, his head would turn and we would've been at risk of losing him (thankfully we didn't). Don't think that'll be a problem with Gio.

Really, the fact is that these players shouldnt have to be telling hockey writers who should win.
Its their job to watch the games and generate opinions on the players and if they cant see that Giordano is the best defenceman in the League by a country mile then they should leave their Press Credentials by the door on their way out and apply to write Sunday morning columns with home cleaning tips.

If we lock him up on a 3-year deal, consider it done.

I'm sure if you asked Gio, he would say that Hedman should win it. That's why hockey players are the best pro athletes.

I’m not surprised Hedman didn’t say “I should win it”. But he could have said Burns or else something less specific “there are a lot of great defencemen who’ve had big years”. Instead he said Gio specifically.

It's really only a two-horse race at this point. If anyone outside of the local San Jose press gives Brent Burns a first place vote, I will be shocked.

As long as he’s ahead in points I wouldn’t be surprised to see writers who don’t watch the west closely throw him votes. But Gio is being talked up heavily so the chances of that are less and less.
If Hedman wins its purely on Eastern bias and Hedman’s career rep.

Yet we all recall in 01-02 when some idiot MTL writer left Iginla entirely off his ballot - as though he did not watch a single game beyond those with the Habs.
Hopefully that guy no longer has a vote.

Doesn't matter what Hedman says, if the press (voters) in Tampa are as biased as their play by play guys, Giordano won't even get a vote at all.
Remember the Montreal vote that didn't even have Iggy at all that year Theodore won the Hart?
That's how ridiculous these things are.

The NHL should really just do away with anything to do with voting.
Revoke the rights of the writers to vote on anything and just set standards and criteria to determine who wins what.

Some players are big fans of the game and watch a lot beyond just their team, and isn't Hedman buddies with Karlsson to. Hopefully Gio wins two trophies this year, it's just too bad that he played on a last place team this year and was not good enough to make the all star team.
