Yeah it was kind of like the BDSM club under Chicken On The Way.

A social group i was associated with also ran an afterhours club for a few years. It was mostly for bar staff.

I agree with whoever said they usually got dragged to Crack the odd time they went, that's how I usually felt but I almost always had a great time once I was there. Wish I was old enough to have experienced Electric Ave. Heard good stories.
Crazy how quickly things change in the club scene, as someone pretty much 30, I'd have an entirely different list of now closed or re-named bars; Outlaws, The Drink, Bourbon St, Cowboys, Embassy, Palace...and then if you felt like slumming, Metro and Crack Alley. Can usually bet on a scrap outside at either of those places.

I frequented the bars every weekend back in the nineties and for some reason never once stepped foot in the Crack Alley or Cowboys, how does this happen?

I have never been to the Crack Alley. My youth was always spent at Cowboys. Or The Taz

Worked there myself for about a year in the Hardcore days (mid-late 90's) when the bouncers looked like an IFBB crew. My sister was dating one of them, and he got me on as a doorman. I saw some really, really bad things happen to some patrons there at the hands of them, and didn't want to stick around and be part of it. One of the best 'career' decisions I made.

The group I always went with knew that if you got thrown out the backdoor, you were eff'd. You would always see two bouncers escort a guy out and then one would stay inside and guard the door. Pretty messed up stuff for sure.

Don't forget The Magic Stick! The nights the Kings Crew and the Grim Reapers would be there at the same time....good times.

Technifluids had a mud lab in that basement - I worked there one summer in the late 80s?

Taz was great for 15 year olds . . . Easiest bar to get into!
I actually miss the Crazy Horse more than I thought . . . Went there when I was about 20, and thought to myself this is where I'm going to pick up hot cougars when I need sex with women who know what they're doing

I got thrown out of the Back Alley once and was way too drunk to remember why. All I remember of that incident is eating one of those ####ty hot dogs outside after being thrown out and arguing with the bouncer about it.
What does one even have to do to get thrown out of the Back Alley, did I kill a guy?

Couldn't have said it better myself. Toss up between The Alley and Essie's in Red Deer back in the day as to where I had more fun.

When I lived in Calgary 00-02, we partied a lot at (correct me if i'm wrong) Metro, near Chinook and Outlaws on MacLeod (Not sure what it is now) Both fun places to party and pick up women! Never made it to the back alley although my friends loved it!

The back door at the Back Alley was not a place I really want to see again. Only place that really used the back door policy as a regular thing. In my short time there the rest of the security team ran on very short fuses. Couldn't even accidentally bump into them on the packed floor without getting your head used as a door opener on your way out. The beer tub girls were awesome though. Sweater kittens everywhere!
