I love john candy movies. He is still my favorite comedian of all time and still to this day -nearly 20 years after his death - his stuff is still funny.
My favorite john candy role on tv is from sctv, cooking with johnny larue, and an episode where the producers make him cook for poor people.
In films, it's tough. The steak scene in Great outdoors is gold. The pillow scene in plains and trains is gold, the security guard scene in vacation still makes me laugh. Probably for me it's from Armed and dangerous when he gets in theyruk with the rocket fuel.
There are so many good scenes though.

He was a neighbour and close friend of my aunt and uncle north of Toronto. A great, generous and warm man in real life by all accounts. Totally down to earth and not 'Hollywood' at all. I never met him because he died when I was still rather young but I have met his widow and his kids at my cousin's wedding--all really lovely people. My aunt and uncle recently attended his daughter's wedding in LA.
I only found out in recent years that he was planning to turn up at my birthday party one year when he was filming Cool Runnings in Calgary but got stuck filming late.
I do love his tongue-in-cheek role in Canadian Bacon.
In TV, I still remember his role as Jorgie (?) in "Hey Jorgie!"
Villager: Hey Jorgie! I bet the townspeople that I could make you say 3 words!
Jorgie: You lose
(townspeople cheer, villager groans)
Jorgie: ...comrades
Funny what you remember. Can't comment on movies as I've only ever seen Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but he was great in that.
How could I forget about Spaceballs and Uncle Buck??? Easily my 2 favourites of his, unless I'm forgetting another one..
I can see how Planes, Trains is most people's fav, but I didn't see it until 5-6 years ago so I don't have the built in nostalgia for it like his others.
Speaking of which (since I was the perfect age for it), I'll throw Cool Runnings into the mix.
