TSN: Flames will inquire about re-acquiring Ferland
yes makes sense and not earth shattering. discuss
Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
Dreger: "I'll tell you this: I think Jim Benning and the Vancouver #Canucks would love to get their hands on Micheal Ferland, either through trade or as a free agent because of what he brings. He can be a top-six player, and he is as tough as nails." #Canes
Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
Dreger: "I would put Vancouver on that list. I'd put Calgary, believe it or not, with interest to get Ferland back, on that list. Winnipeg, Pittsburgh..." #Canucks #Flames #NHLJets #Pens #Canes
Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
Dreger: "From a trade perspective, there's a strong market for that guy. If he gets to unrestricted free agency, there'll be 15 or more teams that'll try and sign him."

i don't think Calgary ever wanted to give up Ferly... or Fox for that matter.
but in order to consummate the deal, these are the guys that needed to be included.
Optically, i think Carolina would be reluctant to deal him back to Calgary. However, if Ferly got to free agency, i think the Flames would try to get him back here, though it would require some other roster moves.

I don’t tend to think much of Dreger’s inside information. I think he is usually just making educated guesses.

One thing that these last few days has made clear to me is that Ferly loved it here, and he clearly has plenty of friends on the team.
Could be a significant add, and one that wouldn't mess with chemistry...

He can even bond quickly with Hanifin and Lindholm over how dumb The Hurricanes are.

You're probably not messing with the chemistry in the dressing room bringing Ferland back so if that's something they are worried about he could very well be targeted.

I'm not sure why this would be a "believe it or not". They didn't necessarily want to trade him in the first place and from everything we've heard and seen, he has many friends in the room and fit in well with the team.
With Conroy's comments today about not wanting to mess up the chemistry in the room, it shouldn't be surprising that they'd be looking at bringing him back.

I'd love it! One of my all time favourite Flames. His new contract would be insane but he's a perfect rental for us

When's the latest time a player was traded away and then back to the same team in the same season?

Not sure about the last time but a Flames example. Good old Brandon Prust
2009-Mar-04 Traded from Calgary Flames with Matthew Lombardi and round 1 pick in the 2010 draft to Phoenix Coyotes for Olli Jokinen and round 3 pick in the 2009 draft (Josh Birkholz)
2009-Jun-27 Traded from Phoenix Coyotes to Calgary Flames for Jim Vandermeer

Yeah Ferland mentioned that from the age of 19 he has spent a lot of time in Calgary which is the better part of 6 years so he has grown and developed with a lot of the players here. Treliving mentioned that they didn't want to give Ferland up in the trade, but Carolina was asking for him. I think the cost would be way too much to make it work though. There will be a bidding war for him.

Where does he slot in the lineup?
13 - 23 - 28
67 - 11 - 19 (or 18)
93 - 77 - 18 (or 19)
88 - 10 - 21
Can't imagine Ferland landing in the top 6... or Neal moving to the 4th line.

Ferland would be such a great rental, already has great chemistry with the team, plus we know exactly what he brings to a playoff series. If the price is right I am all for it but I wouldn’t be surprised if Carolina is looking to make up for some of what they lost in the initial trade

He's going to cost too much. Pretty much a perfect playoff rental, someone will fork over a 1st+

He's going to cost some team a ton to acquire I doubt the flames will spend the assets to get him. I dont think ferland will be coming back if he hits free agency eithier
