Late to the party
Are we just going to ignore that the OP isn’t asking for people’s opinion but rather is telling us who makes the best shawarma is his opinion?

1- lb lean ground beef
1- tsp flour
1- tsp oregano
1- tsp garlic powder
1/2- tsp onion powder
1/2- tsp cayenne pepper
1/2- tsp Italian seasoning
1/2- tsp each salt and pepper
Add spices to a mortar and pestle, grind into a powder.
Place meat into a mixer on low and mix while adding the spices.
Mix until the meat mixture becomes almost a paste.
Remove the meat and slam it into the mixing bowl several times so there are no air bubbles.
Place the meat into a loaf pan and smooth it down with a spatula.
Put it into a 350 oven for an hour and 10 minutes.
Remove and drain.
Tent the meat while you prepare the condiments.
Slice the meat with a super sharp knife as thin as you like.
The sauce;
1- can evaporated milk
2- tbls garlic powder
1- tsp onion powder
4- tbls white vinegar
1/4- cup sugar
Whisk together and refrigerate.
I make the sauce first and place in the fridge so it thickens while I make the meat. Pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds so it is lukewarm.

Any updates?
I'm going to give some love to Flames Pizza and Wings (just off Barlow & 32nd Ave NE). The pizza is pretty average and the wings were decent the one time I had them, but my goodness their donairs are absolutely HUGE and only $6.99. Best bang for your buck in the city, hands down IMO.
They're just a mom and pop operation and I don't know if the operator is actually a Flames fan (he wears and Flames hat and there are the Flames decorations inside) but it's worth a try: http://www.flamespizza.ca/

Haven’t tried donairs there, but I keep going back for pizza and wings.
You can get quite a bit of decent pizza and wings for pretty cheap.
Definitely a mom and pop shop, it’s always the same couple working in there.

^^ yeah my kids like the combo that comes with chocolate cake, fries, and veggie sticks. I mean, where can you order a meal for under $50 and it comes with freaking chocolate cake?!?

I live in the SW- my 2 go to's are
Beirut Street Food- Super awesome- They make their own pitas, and cook the homemade beef and chicken shawarmas over charcoal in house- amazing local business
Pita Grill, both in Riverbend and by Bolsa by Chinook- I think they are both owned by the same family as well- decent portions and delicious!

If anyone has had the Halifax donair from Blowers and Grafton, it's surprising how good it is. It's basically just all meat. Couple of onions and tomatoes, and sauce of course, but overall hardly anything besides the meat.

I thought the one on Edmonton Trail closed.
We have a Donair Grill opening near us, I want to try it.

Desert Pita to me is the best. In the Foothills industrial area.
Shawarma Barlow is fantastic.
Avi's in Copperfield pretty darn good too.

Avi's shawarma platter is awesome. The amount of food you get for the price is great, and I can usually get two meals out of it.

I had that Shawarma Barlow on 17th a while back and it was good, also tried that Jerusalem Shawarma at one of their locations a while back for the first time and thought it was kind of plain and even flat, may have to try a different location.

A number of years ago, I really liked the donairs at The Chick Pea on Stephen Avenue by the Husky Towers. They also had really good falafels too. I'm not sure if they are still around or if management has changed, but it was really good, and I still think about it.

If we do shawarma it’s usually from Baladi up in Sage Hill, just behind Wine and Beyond. They’ve been there for a while now and haven’t let us down.

That place was kick ass. When I worked across the street I would hit up Chick Pea all the time. According to Google it is still around, so I am going to grab some take out soon for old time's sake. Thanks for reminding me!

These two are also my favourite.
The one in Chinook is not owned by the family anymore (and there is a noticeable drop in quality/meat portion).

What's the best donair place in the NW? Jerusalem Shawarma is good but I'm always looking for better. I suppose I could try Baladi as that's close enough.
