I have full faith that Jim Benning did not sign this guy under $11 million/year.

As much as I wanna see 3 years at 9 mil per to bend over the nucks, I'd rather not set that precedent for Tkachuk

I believe 3 years still means he'll be RFA for two years after this deal. That makes it a little less risky to sign him and then have to deal with a QO/arbitration hearing making him a UFA as early as possible, as opposed to say Tkachuk signing for 3 years. Therefore I think the term favours the Canucks, so anything under 6M I would reluctantly call a win for the Canucks.

3 years eliminates his non-arb years.

Interesting if true; working to confirm.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
The third year of Boeser’s contract has a $7.5M base. As we’ve seen with McAvoy/Werenski, that will be a major factor in the last seasons before he’s a UFA.

Yeah, pretty reasonable. As long as it doesn't have a poison pill last year that requires Boesser to be qualified at a crazy high amount. (EDIT: And it's 7.5M, pushing it but probably worth the risk).
I don't see the Canucks competing in the next three years, so hopefully they come back to regret this contract in year four when they have to re-sign him to a higher contract instead of getting an eight year deal at a reasonable cap-hit today.

7.5 probably won't be a major obstacle as a QO, though. It's a perfectly fair deal for a guy who has yet to play a full season and has missed significant time with injury for three straight years. Good reason not to go long term, I suppose.

I doubt there was any 8 year deal available at a reasonable cap hit.
That’s why none of these RFA’s are signing 8 year deals.

Unfortunately that's a pretty solid deal for the Canucks. I'm surprised it was under 6.

Don't the Canucks only have 4.x M cap space left?

Trickier player to value because of the injuries. His production when healthy is superb and could have had 30 goals each of first 2 years in the league.
This could be a steal but then it will cost them big time. Crazy how big their payroll is.
