Bergeron and O'Reilly were locks but that third spot could have just as easily gone to a number of centers instead of a winger. Barkov with 96 points and Couturier at a point-per-game while being responsible defensively centers likely get close to Stone in the vote.
Not making the playoffs shouldn't matter too much because it's not like Stone dragged the Senators to the playoffs...

I'd bet against Stone. For one, he's a winger. That's a drawback (fair or not).

As an aside, I hate that they call them "finalists". The winner has already been picked, and these are just the top three vote getters. It's not like there's a nomination and then a choice.

Backlund will probably end up in the top 10.

I still would like to see Backlund win one at some point.

Case in point, a winger has only won the award 4 times in that last 30 years, and Jere Lehtinen won 3 of them.

No problem with these choices although all have small warts
O’Reily: terrible start for team
Bergeron: missed time due to injury
Stone: plays wing
I’d like to see Stone win having the first winger win since Jere Lehtinon (sp)

He'd have to improve pretty drastically offensively and he's at the age where almost everyone starts to decline rather than produce more.

Likely no chance, he doesn't have that type of rep, and generally there are others that are better, even though he's quite good.
He play against McKinnon is an example of why he's not the guy that can shut down the best.

I know it's positional related but the fact that he's not very good at face-offs doesn't help either.
