Watch the big game live from anywhere.
Until about 6 months ago, I was able to freely stream Shaw Free Range from the USA using PureVPN, but they seem to have figured out how to plug that hole. Would love any feedback via PM if anyone has a way to make it work.

I believe that in recent weeks, Shaw has updated the Free Range app to use the device's location services for geoblocking, instead of using the IP of the internet connection. And there is no option to get around that.

From what I understand, however, your computer's web browser still uses IP for geolocating you, so you could potentially use a VPN to route your traffic through Canada/Calgary and it should work. I actually have a VPN set up on my home router, so that gives me a proper "Calgary" IP.

As for mobile devices, unless you're running an old version of the Free Range app, I don't believe a VPN will make any difference.

Further to what has been suggested earlier in this thread, the Sportsnet app still seems to use IP to determine location.

I think I'm just going to watch the game on NHL tv tape delayed and ignore social media for 3 hours.. It worked for Game 1, Game 2 when I used Roku for live, the flames sucked.
