So looks like they are leaning towards Smith for game 1 if the goalie usage is any indication

Taking a while to get to 5000

That could be (resting Rittich) but Smith is also feeling it. He's engaged, limiting the mistakes and the poor reactionary play and as noted a ton they love him playing the puck.

If Smith is going to be playing as good as he is in the playoffs, you have to play him. Play him until he doesn't play well. He is the one with experience in the playoffs, even if it was so long ago.

Wow, no matter what they're gonna play Smith although Rittich has been fine in his last slew of games.
Smith is the playoff starter (at least for Game 1) in their minds based on this. Not too keen on that.

Smith looks like he might be getting into a groove too.

This would presume that there is a reason to NOT play Smith right now, but he has been really solid for the last couple of weeks. I think I would have started Rittich tonight, but with how both goalies are playing I don't think there is a bad option.

Go Flames.

Magic number is currently 4.5 with SJ, but with 3 ROW wins and a SJ loss we would have the ROW advantage and clinch. Until the ROW is clinched that .5 will be there as a measure to finish 1 point up on SJ.

Rittich is sick.
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames David Rittich was feeling a little under the weather this weekend. He’s feeling better today but still not 100%. Mike Smith gets third-straight start.

Either Smith is the guy, or they're playing Smith against weaker teams and Rittich against playoff bound teams.
Rittich got Columbus and has four playoff teams in his last six starts.
Smith has two playoff teams in his last six, and one was a back to back.
Still murky to me.

My take on who the org are leaning towards in net for the playoffs, is whoever starts against SJ. Vancouver/Ottawa/Kings aren’t really matchups I’d be drawing many conclusions from. WPG/Vegas/SJ/Columbus are the types to watch, and thus far management has split them up.

#Flames Sam Bennett has upper body injury. Bill Peters said he could play today but they’re going to buy his as much time as they can to get back to 100%.

Starting Mike Smith makes sense as the Kings are a dump and chase team so his puck handling skills should neuter them.
I very much dislike the Kings and our dough man will feed their dough man cause 88 is double 8.
Kings Dump and chase in a nut shell:
They are a big DUMP
CHASING 29 teams all year!

Good. We have the luxury of a cushion in the standings to be able to handle these injuries with kid-gloves.

Certainly suggests Monahan can't be hurt if they're handling Bennett this way no?

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. But then again Monahan missed two games last week around some fairly cryptic circumstances. He may not be "injured," but I am still willing to bet that he is playing through something—be it fatigue from an illness, or pain of some sort.

Hopefully we can further the gap with San Jose to 8 points tonight (or at least keep it at 6)

Well, according to Peters he looked like he was sick with what Smith had. We know Smith was sick and we know Rittich is still under the weather. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

i am glad both goalies are playing well; without an 'elite' goalie, chances are that both will play at some point during the playoffs.
i personally don't think experience really matters in this case because the last time smith was in the playoffs was 8/9 years ago...
i don't know about anyone else, but thinking back 8-9 years of previous work experience in my job doesn't really do much for me... if that number was less than maybe 4 years i think it would be meaningful but not 8/9 years
