I think Calgary's in trouble. You can thank BC and the Feds for that.
The trouble with the 'things are good' crowd is that 'things change' and owners and business people will move on because it makes sense from a business perspective and that's pretty much all the thought that'll go into it- fans be damned.

You have much less faith in the people of this city and province than I'd say most of us do. Calgarians are smart people. Yeah times are bad right now and our economy is not set up for success. However, our population is young and industrious and innovative and I suspect that if there is a province and city in this country that will figure out a way to go on despite the woes of the O&G industry it is US. Not everything in Calgary revolves around oil and gas. It's time our populace starts to learn that. You talk to young Calgarian's the youth leaders of tomorrow, the youth titans of industry and they already realize and understand this. Calgary's future is bright. And it's important to continue to invest in public spaces like Stampede park's redevelopment so we have great places for our future to celebrate, congregate, get some work done and still have fun. CMLC has proven in my mind that they're the right people for this job.

The Lansdowne Park partnership between the city and Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) ended 2017 nearly $8 million in the red, despite hosting such high-profile events as the Grey Cup and an outdoor NHL game.
The Lansdowne partnership posted a net loss of $7.9 million in its fourth year of operation, an improvement over the $14.4 million loss it posted in 2016.

MGM proposing to build $5.1-billion casino resort in downtown Calgary
MGM Resorts International is promising the City of Calgary a significant economic and tourism boost if it’s allowed to build a massive $5.1-billion, fully-integrated casino resort and residential complex in downtown.
The Las Vegas-based gaming giant announced its proposal this morning to redevelop a 22-acre property at 1075 Street SE, which includes the site of Calgary Transit’s Victoria Park Garage. The property, located just south of Fort Calgary, fronts the Elbow River on its southeast border in the Victoria Park area of the Rivers District.
More importantly . . . .
If the project passes through the numerous public consultation hurdles and is fully approved by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLCC), and the municipal government, the proponents will realize a significant ‘Public Benefits Package’ (PBP) in exchange for the project’s approval.
The value of the PBP, a part of the overall $5.1-billion cost of the redevelopment, is $270 million, which will include $200 million towards covering the City of Calgary’s recently-approved $1.5-billion sports, events, and cultural infrastructure capital investments. The PBP will specifically go towards the estimated $500 million to $600 million cost of the new NHL arena for the Calgary Flames, which is slated to be built near the MGM site.

^ That could be the new source of funding for the arena that CMLC president said was found recently.
Assuming that it is not some kind of April Fools joke.

I’m calling April fools on that one. Doubt MGM would pick Calgary as a place to build such a development here.

I read it and if it's a joke, it has no punchline like the usual April Fools news stories that just get more and more ridiculous as they go on.
ETA: on the other hand it's the only site that has the story so definitely a joke. Badly pulled off.

Not seeing any information about it on MGM's websites or anyone else reporting it.

Not to mention the rendering has no reflection of Calgary either. If it were real, I would have serious concerns over the effort put forth by everyone involved

A Google search shows that the President of MGM Resorts International is not Christoph Kerker and the President of Matthews Southwest is not John Ohlund.
But really well done for an April Fools article.
