Was hanging with a couple guys from our "gang" at the time. Smoked weed whenever we could back then whilst trying to engage with the fairer sex. Wasn't happening on this particular day.
Cold as hell out one day/night and one of the guys folks weren't home. I believe his big sister had purchased 2112 and was also not home and we needed warmth.
Went to the basement, put the album on, cranked it.
I was blown away. never looked back.

Peart/Rush?
when I was a teenager Rush was a band I could give or take. When I was about nineteen I was in a pawn shop that offered three cassettes for $10. I needed a third tape so I grabbed Power Windows. I listened to it that night (like REALLY listened to it - musically, lyrically, all of it). the next morning I went back to the pawn shop and bought three more Rush tapes. The day after that I went to HMV and bought the ones I couldn't find at the pawn shop. That put me on the Rush train for life.

PW is my favourite Rush album, not a bad song on there.

^ Lifeson is criminally underrated as well; few guitarists can pull off the range and effect he is able to command.
I certainly meant no disrespect to Lifeson. I admit that I am not familiar with Rush's entire catalog of music. I really only know the more popular songs of theirs that were on the radio or had videos. The songs I know, I like.
Reading this thread has convinced me to explore more of their music though.

They were my very first concert at age 14, the Fly By Night album, one of the first times my parents let me go out with my friends by ourselves. It was the most fun I’d had to that point in my life and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve seen them more than any other band in my life. Not nearly as often as I would have wanted unfortunately. I was in Hawaii in late 1984 when I heard they would be playing a show so had to go see them there as well since I had the chance.
Was very happy to take my son to his first concert and of course it was Rush, the Snakes and Arrows tour.
Fell in love with the whole Rush experience that night.
I had been locked into 2112 being I was a hormone raging/weed smoking/air drumming teen and thinking side one was as good as music could ever get.
Then Farewell to Kings was released and the tour happened.
Became a lifer and realized how much more was out there.
I went because all my friends at school were saying they were cool. It wasn't until I got a part time job that I had the disposable income to buy records. Of course a few years later I discovered punk, so by then Rush were pompous prog rock posers. I did come around back to them in later years though.
My very first rush experience was actually In The Mood. Then I heard YYZ somewhere along the line, and picked up Moving Pictures. Unsure where to go next, I picked up Signals because I heard Subdivisions somehow. Fell in love with a girl who happened to grow up in with a Rush worshipping father, and she introduced me properly to the catalogue.
To this day, most Rush albums bring me back to 16 years old driving around with my first love. Life’s a trip sometimes.

The first Rush song I ever hard was Cygnus X1....quite an initiation for sure! A drummer friend of mine played it for me. First concert I saw was the Farewell to Kings tour and I believe Max Webster were the opening act.
The album that really got me hooked was Hemisphere's. Buddy had a red vinyl copy of it. Spent many nights trying to figure out La Villa Strangiato on guitar.
