RIP Cst. Travis Jordan and Cst. Brett Ryan.

One was rushed to the hospital in a squad car to save his life. His wife, an EMS member, was at the same hospital with a patient. I can't imagine.

The stuff of nightmares - responding to a domestic violence call and ambushed.

So sorry for their families.

RIP Constable Jordan 😥

Edmonton police officer dubbed "Snow Angel’"gifts snow brush to woman instead of ticketing her.

Upticks in crime across Canada. Crazies getting crazier watching all kinds of crazy online? How many vehicle mowing down pedestrian incidents have we had? Uptick in Murders? Domestic violence? Huge issues with public transportation safety?

I can't tell if you're asking me or trying to tell me something, but yes it will certainly be interesting to see crime stats for 2022 when they're available in a few months.

We're becoming the US. Soon officers will have to answer domestic call with guns drawn. And of course, at some point, an officer will shoot first.

So you're saying the answer is to make the problem worse?

I wonder how much is related to the ACAB thing that is pretty common among a certain segment of the in population nowadays. There does seem to be an increased feeling of anger towards the police now and I wonder if there is now more of an 'us vs them' believe or thought process among some people.

Six other police officers have been killed in Canada since September 2022: five were in Ontario and one was in British Columbia.

No. Unfortunately, we may be headed in that direction.

It'll be interesting to hear what dispatch said and who called the police. You almost have to think there was a failure of some kind for officers to walk into an apparent ambush like this. News saying it was a 16 or 17 year old and his mother was another victim.

Why can't these people just off themselves before ruining so many lives first.

7 is 7 too many, but it's about a quarter of the per capita rate in the USA.

Nothing official about the suspect but sources are saying it was a 16 year old kid. I suspect that being a dumb ass kid with too much access to guns is a more likely suspect in this one than a ACAB sentiment. We'll probably never know for sure.

Awful for the officers and their families and loved ones.

The 16-year-old also shot his mother who is in hospital fighting for her life. I wonder what happened in that home to cause the boy to lash out like this. I know that area as a former girlfriend lived there; I don’t mind mentioning that I cried watching the evening news tonight.

Agreed.

But I don't think it's particularly difficult to kill a police officer if you really want to. The only thing that prevents it from being a "regular" occurrence is good training (at least in Canada), experience and that the majority of people don't subscribe to the ACAB sentiments (although that's changing and as someone pointed out, may contribute to the increased violence against police).

It's interesting that I've seen a lot of blue line images today and I think it really shows that despite what some people think of it or how it's been (mis)appropriated by other groups, it's a very important symbol of support for police.
