Yep, I put it in the other thread too… even more reason to be sure to watch the Speed Skating tonight!

50 years is impressive, congrats Steve on an illustrious career! Will not quote the Mike Richards impression however tempting but will just say E=NG.

legendary career, but of course it's this that will outlive all of us and any of our descendants. I literally cannot think of anything else when I hear the name Armitage.

It never gets old, does it?

They should bring him back to do Canada's World Cup run and matches in Qatar!

I will always associate him with Pee Wee's TD catch in the Western final.

"He could go!" At that point Pee Wee was basically in the end zone and no one close to him, so yeah he definitely could go.

I wasn't always a huge fan of Armitage but after a while the distinctive style really grew on me. A little but like Ed Whalen that way.

It actually might improve with age.

Hope he enjoys a long and healthy retirement. All time great, no question. Most of the commentary I hear in my head about important moments in amateur (and many in pro) sport are in his voice.

He was under-rated hockey play by play guy, who often occupied the 4th seat behind Cole, Irvin (who would do Habs games), and Whittman.
I always preferred him to Whittman by a good margin and wished he had more opportunities on HNIC.
I felt he had an excellent sense for the emotion of the game.

The Edmonton clip will never get old. Seriously though he's been on the call of so many classic moments. When I think of Olympic speed skating I think of him.
