Default Cagary man shamed in accidental death of his dog commits suicide

Pretty sad story. The guy maintains his innocence, that he was frantically looking for his dog with the unfortunate ending and was absolutely pummeled with people going after him, including death threats. Everyone probably heard about back when it happened.

Sadly, he took his own life recently.

Quote:
But you might remember his name; it was in the news last summer.
Or maybe you saw it on Facebook, alongside comments labelling him an "idiot," a "terrible person" and "human garbage."
Strangers cast these judgments on him, knowing nothing of his life and little about the circumstances surrounding his dog's death. But of one thing they were certain: his pet died in a horrific way — left in a car for days during a summer heat wave — and that was all they needed to know.

Quaile tried to defend himself from the onslaught of online hate. He explained, to anyone who would listen, his version of events: that he didn't know how his dog ended up in his car, that he had been frantically searching for his beloved companion, that he was more devastated than anyone when he discovered her dead inside the hot vehicle.
Quote:
Many commenters said he didn't deserve to live. Some suggested they'd kill him, given the chance. On the Calgary Humane Society's Facebook post that announced he had been charged with a non-criminal offence, one person responded with no words, posting only an animated image of a swinging noose.
Quaile died by suicide. He was 45.
Everyone who made the comments probably moved on without much thought.

Tragic. Hopefully its a reminder to people that things aren't always what they seem on the internet.

So many people on social media rain down holy hell on people without knowing anything about the situation.

Sounds like a combination of alcoholism and online hate. Somehow his dog ended up in his car for multiple days before being found dead. The story I read said his care for the animal declined as his drinking problem got worse. Feel bad for the guy and his dog.

Saw that on msn, too bad. Some people should just stay away from fb. I do, and I'm ok.

I think that there should be a ai presence that reviews topics and can review your responses, then assigns a cost to your post. If you say something positive to a person Amazon sends you a bunny.

If you post a picture of a swinging rope you have to stick your hand down the food disposal.

People are #######s on the internet. Seeing people comment "Good" "He deserved it". What kind of bitter life do they live that they think its okay to say those things.

1983 - somewhere some dudes - "We give the world the Internet, a noble vision which will give us a way to share information publicly, reach out to people that we normally would never have a chance to talk to and learn from. this is a great day for humanity, it will improve the human experience and maybe start our evolution to the next level."

2017 same dudes - "How the hell did this thing become the world's largest distribution system of donkey porn and a complete ahole factory"

Answer - "We let human's use it"

It is a terrible story of how addiction can get the worst of person. Should people online take this into consideration? Of course. Better yet, why is the original event even a story that needs to be posted. Is it even 'news'. This is the biggest issue.

However, I get the outrage. This guy was at best negligent giving his dog to someone else, who then put the dog in his vehicle in the heat for days... (yeah right) OR at worst was an addict who put his dog in the car and forget about it.

1. This guy went on an alcohol and drug bender and had no clue where his dog was/is.

2. He states he gave it to someone but can't remember who, and lies about reporting it missing.

3. His family states he had not been taking care of this dog properly for months due to alcohol abuse.

4. He commits suicide months after this when he is prone to depression and addiction.

Do I believe this man loved his dog? For sure.
Do I believe this man caused the horrid death of his dog? Absolutely. Anyone who has known an addict knows this guy is 100% for of $h1t with his story. He couldn't even give an interview sober.

I have no more or less sympathy for this man then anyone who is suffering through the effects of drug and alcohol. Let's not blame the internet for his suicide, but address the real problem of drug and alcohol addiction, and use this story as a tool to raise awareness that the desease can cause you to 'kill' something you love as much as your dog.

Is there an irony emoji?

I can't help notice that more than many of the more outraged posters in this thread routinely attack and "name call" politicians they don't support, not to mention posters in other threads with whom they don't agree.

Public figures? Not the same as private citizens.

Can we agree that Trump is exempt from any ban on vilifying politicians?

If I was ever charged with a crime, I would delete all of my social media accounts with the exception of calgarypuck where I would I would post my story and mock myself for being a tool
