Wow chicken has really good fried chicken. It's a Korean fried chicken joint that has chicken in different sauces as well as plain crispy. Chicken is made to order and comes out hot and crispy.
They've got a couple locations-one in Kensington and one in Chinatown. My favourite is crispy but also give the spicy or soy scallion a try.

Fries are very good as well. I much prefer wow chicken over olive chicken (another Korean fried chicken joint).

one more thing about Wow, they offer boneless thigh combos. so if you've ever sat at your table, tearing into crispy juicy bird flesh and leaving a huge stack of bones like the aftermath of 300, and then thought to yourself "geez all these stupid bones are just getting in the way and slowing down my rate of chicken consumption"...Wow has the solution.

I love the spicy boneless chicken at Wow chicken, but I find the regular fried chicken disappointing.

It's very well prepared. Crispy, juicy, but there is a lack of seasoning which is disappointing.

Ogam also sells Korean Fried Chicken. Though it's not as good as Wow, Yum Yum or Olive IMO. But they also serve other Korean dishes like glass noodles, bean soup and stuff. So it's nice if you're looking for a variety.

But damnit when is Calgary gonna get a Popeye's?? I had that once when I was down in Mississippi...came with a biscuit and refried beans...just heaven.

if they do a Popeye's here, I really doubt the execution will be the same. and even if it is, probably 70% of the taste of Popeye's (and any other food abroad) is the Vacation Effect. everything automatically tastes better when you're in a new, exciting place.

What I would give for a legit chicken/waffle house like Roscoe's to open up in Calgary. Unfortunately I heard that they may be filing for bankruptcy.

Now they have:

Crispy. Hot & Sweet, Extra Spicy, Ginger Soy, and Shallot Chicken.

In addition there were some boneless items like popcorn chicken, chicken kangjung, etc.

It was a while since I had been there, so maybe this isn't new. When I was last there they only had crispy and hot & sweet.

Just discovered the one in Southwood myself recently. Tastes great, but I think it's a bit on the expensive side...

Jim Rome used to do a funny bit on how the cobbler always came out hotter than the surface of the sun.

Does anyone else like fried chicken that is more on the dried out side? I'd rather have it a bit dried out/flakey than the soggy sopping on the inside stuff.

I tried it in Baton Rouge and wasn't overly impressed, I mean it was good but I wouldn't call it amazing or heavenly or even all that different from the Popeye's I had in New Jersey a couple of weeks prior.

Damn this thread is making me crave some chicken! The only fried chicken place here is KFC, and KFC in NZ is well below the standards of Canadian/American KFC (and that wasn't a very high standard to begin with). I might have to just make some at work.

This thread got me wondering, are there any places in town do good southern food? (greens, grits, biscuits and gravy etc)
