1. Why does it have to be better than the original to be good? Or even OK?
2. What's your reasoning for considering it bad? It hasn't even begun filming. There are really no grounds for any type of criticism at all at this point. Not a single person knows anything about the movie outside of it has 4 females instead of males and that they will be busting ghosts. If you watch it and you hate it, fine. But there are lots of people who are automatically hating this and there are only two possible reasons. A) Irrational hate because it has Ghostbusters in the title. B) It's Ghostbusters without dudes.
Do you not like the other work of the actresses? Have you never seen a movie featuring an actor you didn't generally like and end up thinking it to be good? I know I have.
Think they could have cast better ones? On the surface, there are probably some better choices, even if they kept it as 4 women. Still not a reason to call it a pile of poo before production even begins.
Have you read the script?
A lot of people seem to have more information that others if they're not purely basing hate on A and/or B.

It's an opinion. I don't need grounds. Geez, this forum is full of them.
The original was great for so many reasons, cast and chemistry being a huge part. Witty one liners rather than the potty humour that passes for comedy these days. And it does need to be as good or better, your messing with a classic, haha. They are counting on fans of the original spending hard earned money and it would be an insult to take that money and damage the legacy.
I just think that they are trying to ride coattails too much these days. Substituting CGI for story. In your face comedy instead of thoughtful humour.
What do you think, will it be awesome? Crap? Or just no opinion til you see it.
Or are you just trying to pick a fight today?

All good points, much of which I agree with. Remakes/riding of coatials. CGI vs real sets and story. Dumbed-down comedy. Not much originality from Hollywood these days. All of it is true. Doesn't mean that some don't shake those things.
I really like Ghostbusters, but wasn't born when it came out so maybe it doesn't hold the same holy status with me. Most of my early Ghostbusters exposure was the cartoon. Even if this is straight up terrible, it won't stop me from laughing at the original. If it's somehow better, it still won't change my opinion of the original.
I carry no opinion until I see it. I don't see how it could be any other way. How can you hate, or even have an opinion on, something that doesn't even exist yet? Even two ugly people could have a handsome kid.

I wonder what Annie Potts is up to these days? I'd love to see her reprise her role as a 60-year-old version of Janine.

So is Slimer going to be Slimette in this?

I think this sums up the opinion of many:
It is completely unnecessary to reboot this franchise, why don't they take these four and think of something original? This is destined to
fail.
Nothing against the actors, just a bad choice to try and recreate The Ghostbusters.

Dont you find the concept just insultingly gimmicky? I mean, its like something Ol' Gill would come up with.

Even if this movie does well, I doubt they'll ever have a moment as great as this...

Because Hollywood is out of ideas for blockbusters.
Reboots, Comic book movies and flops. That's their three choices.

There are lots of ideas for blockbusters out there, but studios are the only ones capable of making one, and they only accept ideas from the same small pool of people.
Usually, a would be blockbuster ends up as, "they did an amazing job, considering their budget, cast, and food services".
Also, they credit Harold Ramis as writer, at the moment, but he can no longer defend his creation, so I wouldn't be surprised to see five or six names credited to some monstrosity by the end of shooting.

They're probably going to combine ghost busters and charlies angels with Slimer playing the role of Bosley and the unseen charlie being played by Tom Green
Annie Potts will appear as a vengeful ghost who never got over the death of Rick Moranis who won't come out of retirement.
Bill Murray will have a cameo where he's an unemployed former ghostbuster who walks in to try and get his job back, looks at the cast and says "Nope" and walks out.
The villain will take the form Teddy Ruxpin for product placement and because he's so fluffy and cute, the villains name will be Dozer the angry brother of Gozer.
At one point they'll all stare sadly at a picture of Egon and ask what he would do.

Actually the movie 1984 could be done very well nowdays.
But no one would watch it because its all talking.
There was a remake of animal farm done a few years back and it was outstanding.

It is gimmicky, and it come off quite forced and inorganic.
It will either be a great success or massive failure.

I will hold off on criticizing until I see the movie, or at the very least until I know more about it than who is in it.
There is just not enough information at this point to really have much of an opinion.
